The Lakers reportedly worked out Hasheem Thabeet

The Los Angeles Lakers worked out former second-overall pick Hasheem Thabeet, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. Kennedy does not specify when the team worked him out or who witnessed it, but did note it was “recently.” The New York Knicks and Washington Wizards also reportedly worked out Thabeet.

Signs don’t point towards the former Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Oklahoma City Thunder big man being a contributor, or a particularly likely option to even be signed for several reasons. Thabeet averaged 1.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 8.3 minutes per game for the Thunder during the 2013-14 season, his last in the NBA.

Kennedy’s profile of Thabeet features some glowing anecdotes concerning his improvement from people close to him, but it’s hard to picture him doing enough to truly put himself in the conversation to join the Lakers’ already crowded frontcourt.

This is most likely just a case of the front office doing due diligence.

Thabeet’s size and draft pedigree will ensure he stays on NBA radars for as long as he wants to be, but don’t go out and buy a customized Lakers jersey with his name on it just yet.

Alrighty then.. probably nothing but due dilligence. Much as I wish Thabeet hadn't have been a bust, there's a BIG reason he was available.

I remember before the draft everyone knew this Thabeet was going to be a bust. No idea why Memphis still took him at #2, nobody was even surprised when he couldn't hack it in the league.

Lakers love lottery pick busts. I wonder if Mitch also gave a call to Greg Oden, Emeka Okafor, Tyrus Thomas, Andris Biedrins, Al Thornton, Julian Wright, Terrence Williams and Jonny Flynn to come work out for the Lakers.

Must've been another slow day in the office for Mitch when he agreed to that. He should just start doing cross word puzzles.

Okafor was a legit defensive presence and a double-double machine before the back/neck problems. Too bad because he would have had a good career trajectory.

I don't watch much college ball, but he was a player who was talked about a lot. The only game I watched was that Pitt/UConn game where Dejuan Blair destroyed him

Thabeet? what happened to Thabeet....he went to my alma mater so I saw every game in college. Shocked he was picked so high as he offers zero offensively but was decent defensively in terms of blocking and changing shots....doesn't really have a feel for the game tho as he was fairly raw and new to basketball when he came to Uconn...I imagine that hasn't changed much as he didn't seem to be any better from what I remembered at OKC....Sorry guys I don't see this going anywhere....

Thabeet should only be used as practice fodder for Zubac to develop his post game against.

They passed on Harden, Curry, Rubio, Tyreke, De Rozan... this was one of the Top-3 worst picks ever.
