A video of a black man being arrested for walking in the street due to a closed sidewalk in Edina is going viral. The video shows a plain clothes Edina police officer grabbing a man who the officer says was “walking down the middle of the street.”
The woman who posted the seven-minute video wrote in the description that she passed a man who was walking on the white line of the street’s shoulder.
Quote: | “There was construction and it was obvious that the sidewalk was not available right there so he was hugging the right side as far as he could go,” she said. “I went around him and noticed in my rearview mirror that an unmarked SUV turned on police lights. The officer pulled in front of the pedestrian to cut him off and proceeded to accuse him of walking in the middle of the street.” |
The woman repeatedly tries to appeal to the officer as the man becomes more and more upset. Another officer soon arrives and tells the man, “My partner told me you’re under arrest.”
Both the woman shooting the video and a bystander claim the first officer never said the man was going to be arrested.
Quote: | “You could have just showed him where to walk really kindly. You are the one that incited this,” the woman said. “He’s scared. People die in these situations, it’s scary.” |

Your post is misleading, at best.
The dude ignores the cops, and thinks the situation is going to get better as a result.
It's these type of half truths which only puts more gas on the fire. People don't bother reading the whole story and as a result, you've now painted another law enforcement department as a racist element.
Frankly I find it irresponsible to select only parts of the story to further whatever agenda it is you are supporting.

The sanitized police version of events directly conflicts with the observations of an eyewitness who provided video footage. She correctly asserts that all the officer had to do was provide a reasonable suggestion and the whole thing would have been a non-issue. His continued failure to remove his hands from some one who A) requested that he not be touched, and b) who was not suspected of a crime - colors any estimations regarding his 'good intentions'. Providing instructions does NOT require physical contact. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. I would've knocked the guy out if I were the cop. Dude was being non-compliant and obnoxious. |

Which should be the expected reaction when you jump out of your car and grab someone by their clothing like they are a child.
Go and do that to a random person walking down the street, see what happens. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

Are you kidding me? This is the very definition of police escalation. The cop jumps out of his car and immediately puts hands on a grown man like the man is a child.
Adults do not appreciate being treated like children. Blacks do not appreciate being targeted by police. The reaction was completely justified. The cop's actions were not at all. The man was literally just walking down the street. The charges were dropped. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Typical response of someone who really doesn't understand. Men don't like being disrespected. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The Officer inadvertently outed himself when he said "You can't talk like that in THIS neighborhood."
Also interesting is the fact that the officer claims to have been concerned about safety, then he walks the guy right back out into the road in the same place that he saw him first walking. So let's get this straight, he wants us to believe that safety was the 'real' issue then he goes and hand walks the guy along the same path from which he'd already just walked.
(In case people aren't fully aware, the citizen had already made it past the construction and was at the corner and the officer got out, then himself walked out alongside the road and grabbed the citizen then walked the citizen back out along the road past construction and back to where his unmarked cruiser was. Seems if safety was the issue, he'd have had the conversation where he found the citizen instead of walking back out along traffic again when he claims safety was his only real concern. Yeah right. The Officers actions caused 2 unnecessary trips along the roads edge (his to the corner, and then his and the citizens back to his unmarked vehicle) _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs.
