Will this be the first transaction with the A's that rwongega will approve of? |
Nope. Should've gotten 800k. |

Joc is hitting at the 8 spot tonight, Wild horse batting 6th.
Maybe a last ditch by Doc before Joc rides the pine.
Taylor can slide to CF and we can platoon Segedin/Kike or even see if Ethier has any old magic left in his swing. _________________ 16 and counting.... |

As the 2001 Mariners, 2015 Warriors, and 18-1 Cheatriots would say, it doesn't matter unless you win the last game of the season. |
Can't worry about any of that right now. Playoffs are two months away.
For now, I'm enjoying the hell out of this team. |

Dodgers will probably have to tinker with the fifth spot in the lineup and give Bellinger some protection. I think the fifth spot has been a black hole at an average of around .200 regardless of the hitter.
As for the Hatcher trade, I wonder if they got the international slot for a possible Otani offer. Unfortunately they're gonna need a lot more slots to give him the kind of offer he can get elsewhere. |

If I'm not mistaken, the offers for Otani, under the new collective bargaining agreement concerning players from Japan, are basically capped now. I don't think he can make more than $7MM annually, or something like that. Before, it was just whomever posted the highest bid got the player. But now, basically every team can get him. It's going to come down to where he wants to go.
This is what I could find:
The new rule gives teams a $5 million budget to spend on international free agents every year. That rule, however, doesn’t apply if the player is 25 or older. Because of that, Otani, who is 22, would be limited to a contract around $10 million if he comes over before 2019, when he would be 25. Teams are eligible to trade for international cap salary, which is how Otani could receive around $10 million. |

That might have been Puig's best at-bat all year. Incredible. _________________ |

Where's all those folks that wanted to get rid of Puig? Your serving of crow awaits. What a great at bat to win the game. |

It certainly doesn't mean as much if you don't cap it off with the title, but in my opinion baseball is a bit different in that the regular season really does matter and has a lot of historical significance.
If the Dodgers keep up this incredible pace (major league leading 10th walkoff win last night with another 9th inning comeback) what they have done and continue to do this season will still be historic, even if they (god forbid) didn't win the title. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Didn't catch the ending last night, I had assumed they lost since it was 4-2 in the 9th inning and Darvish didn't have a good game, but wow I check on the news this morning they came back and won again...amazing. |

Any other player and I would have been questioning why the hell Roberts hadn't moved him up in the lineup yet. With Puig, I'm actually worried about him moving up. I think 6 is a good spot for him, though. |
Statistically, Puig has actually done best higher in the order in his career.
Not that I'm advocating breaking up the Seager-Turner-Bellinger block. Just sayin'. He's outgrown the 8th spot.
The only reason he wasn't moved up sooner is superstition - i.e. the team's unprecedented success - and I'm OK with that. But ideally, in this particular group, he makes the most sense to protect Bellinger in the 5th position. Sliding him up gradually is fine by me. |

Somebody should do a running standings update of a "division" that includes these '17 Dodgers, the '01 Mariners, the '98 Yankees, and a couple of other teams from the past. I saw one somewhere in which the Dodgers are currently 3 GB the Yankees, with the Mariners sandwiched in between in 2nd place. |

That's why, at least for now, you don't move him. That success is telling in that it reflects the balance of the order. From the time that Chris Taylor steps into the box, to the time Yasiel bats, we are working the opposing pitchers over mercilessly. I think that in part is why we've had so many late comebacks.
We've got quality top to bottom. One other factor to consider is that I think Puig has not only matured, but he's also relaxed. That early career tension and edginess has been replaced by a steady, I'm still one talented MF, kind of vibe.
It's probably a combination of a more stable domestic life, and a great mentors in Roberts & the rest. |

Personally, if the Dodgers wrap up home field advantage early it's okay to step on the brakes and bypass any chance at 117 wins, this team has suffered enough injuries, play the kids the final week. |
