|
|
We are currently 0-0, sitting tied atop the Pacific Division. That being said, here are some tips on how to enjoy this season (all prefaced by the fact that copious amounts of alcohol also are substitutes):
1. Lower Expectations. Yes, we are the franchise that wins rings. We only hang the jerseys of HOFers, and have probably more top 25 consensus all time greats. But not this year. It's time to lower our expectations a bit. What Luke did compared to Byron last year is to be honest. He's come out and said this will be a trying year that should not be measured simply by wins/losses.
2. Enjoy the Younglings Growing. We have some genuine young talent in DLO/Ingram/JC/Randle/Nance/Zub (RIP Brown). I do believe amongst that group, we have 2 future all-star players (DLO/Ingram). It will be fun watching how they improve game to game, month to month, season to season. We haven't had a wholesale rebuild from scratch in a long time.
3. Separate this Season into Parts:: Our first month's schedule is quite brutal. Seems the middle part is ok and at the end, lots of tougher teams. I'd divide the season into 3 and evaluate it on a sliding scale. The beginning 3rd will be rough as we have so many new pieces and parts, and are so young. The 2nd 3rd will be better as I believe our young guys will start hitting their stride, especially Ingram and DLO. I think it's at this point we start winning most of our games for the season. Final 3rd is unpredictable. Maybe the playoff teams we are facing will ease up while we start throwing out our young guys to compete.
This is how I'm approaching this season. Lowered expectations, focus on younglings, and seeing the season as 3 distinct parts. How are you approaching this season?

I am heavy advocate for reason #2. I will enjoy watching the young guys grow into amazing basketball players.

I like the analysis, and the detailed comments.
IMO if playoffs are out of reach my hope is that at least one of the young guys turn into a star. |

I think our first 25 games will be vastly different than the last 25. We will see 2 different teams out there. Getting minutes for young guys like DLO/Ingram/Zub is so crucial and you can see rapid development from our under 21 year old kids. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I expect a lot of growing pains, but nothing more painful than last season. I'm hoping they play close-to-500 ball in the 2nd half of the season. |

Great post yinoma, thanks for reminding us on what our focus should really be this season.
And I agree that the beginning of the season will test us all; I can hear all those player "x" sucks during and after one game or the the other but hopefully Luke keeps his eye on development, as you've mentioned.

basically accept we are finishing bottom 3.
Enjoy any wins like its Xmas.
& if we have 1/2 breakout games by 1/2 of our young players, pretend they are going to better then Steph/KD |

The key for me is to view this season in 3 parts. 1st part may get dicey, but that means someone like Ingram gets 25 NBA games under his belt. Come Jan-Feb, could see him taking off. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Yes, I will enjoy every bit also, although their will be a lot of few sleeping hours. Today game will begin @ 10:30pm here in PR and will be the only one. Next week they will be starting @ 11:30pm! |

I think I will enjoy this laker season if luke gets the starting line up and rotations right; rather than the terrible rotations he has been putting on the floor. I will just have to wait and see, but i'm gonna be watching the games. |

I think the first 20 games will be a starting lineup that will differ vastly from the last 20 games. I could a see number of changes like Lou being traded for example. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I want to see this team win games. Im realistic in the fact that they probably wont but watching loss after loss will make me lose interest untill next season.
Im hope after the All Start game we will be competitive but if not i cant see myself watching us lose when they're better ways to spend my time. |

I dont understand why some people are still tying to themselves up in knots over this season. Its a free season, low expectations. If they lose, oh well, we expect them to lose. If they win, awesome. No use stressing unless its a carbon copy of last year and hopefully it isn't. _________________ *sighs*

Sure, but if losing a lot of games (likely a given) is a reality for this season, have to find other ways to track progress. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Don't need the advice. Maybe I've always thought that the point of sports - at least from a fan perspective - was to try to enjoy it along the way if possible, and in that regard, each of us in our own way.
Sure, some guys will seem to set themselves up early for disappointment in the upcoming Laker season by hoping for more success than possible, but we each make a choice for ourselves as to a projection for what's going to happen.
I think the Lakers can be successful this season even by missing out on a playoff berth by several games. That's what I think will happen too.
I'm hoping to see some improvement in the play of the team, improvements in the play of the individuals, and smarter work in the moves of our coach. One step at a time, for me. |

I really hope lou is traded. I don't see him fitting with us. |
