Los Lakers know their Hispanic fan base
Quote: | The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular teams in the NBA, especially for the sizable Hispanic population of the city.
Julio Manteiga, associate director of media monitoring and Latin America communications for the NBA, provided ESPN information stating Hispanic fan attendance for Lakers games was 42 percent. In the 2015 U.S. Census, the Hispanic population of Los Angeles County was measured at 48.4 percent.
"We don't do a whole lot of advertising," explained John Black, the team's spokesman and vice president.
Instead, the Lakers have benefited from taking the initiative to make their games accessible to a Latino audience, starting with broadcasting games in Spanish.
"We've been doing that for 22 years now," Black said. "We were the first [NBA] team to do that." |

We need to play these 4 games this week tough. Hopefully pull out a couple of wins. I'll be happy with competitive no let down games though. |

I expect a developing team to lose some games. I hadn't deluded myself that we were secretly a championship team. I am enjoying watching the games this season. There's effort and competitiveness and occasional flashes of brilliance. It is infinitely preferable to the pathetic "I give up"-fest that was last season.
Go Lakers! |

Three Takeaways From LA’s Fun Win Over the Thunder
Quote: | The Los Angeles Lakers broke their two game home losing streak with an impressive win over Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder
In a game in which the Lakers led for the majority of the time, Russell Westbrook’s monumental fourth quarter performance nearly brought the Thunder to victory.
It took collective strong performances from the Los Angeles roster to compensate for both Westbrook’s presence as well as the absence of point guard D’Angelo Russell, who sat out with a sore knee. |

Good to see us playing basketball and being able to match up to the League standards... We surely would have lost to that team last year with Kobe and them without KD and the reason being, is because we played isolation basketball. This year our team is more focused on ball movement and making the extra pass. When our offense stays stagnant, that's when we defer to the other team, when we have continuity and flow of motion, we're competitive and hard to beat.
It's great that we don't have "1" single standout superstar and are competing hard against elite level NBA teams, because that means we are building symmetry and toward our future. We may have an All Star on this team come the break, you just never know. I'm 100% assured that there will be a Star player on our team in the future one way or another, but for now this Lakers team is "Fun to Watch" and can play some basketball. It's obvious everyone worked hard over the summer to improve their game and that is what this game is all about! |

Living outside of LA, I'm starting to hear the comments now from fans of other teams. Non-laker fans are starting to notice. Here we are, 15 games into the season, and the Lakers still have a winning record.
Lots of people are starting to ask "What happened?" I tell them "Luke Walton" and they roll their eyes. No way could an inexperienced first-time coach like Luke make that much of a difference.
So I tell them how bad Scott was last year in every aspect of coaching or designing an offense, and they roll their eyes. No way could a coach make that much of a difference.
So I tell them Nick Young is playing defense and passing the ball and Lou Williams is mixing in ball movement really well this year. Completely different players. And the youngsters are learning fundamentals. They look doubtful about how guys who make the pros could be missing that much in fundamentals, and they'll also ask "Why would Swaggy P and Lou Williams be any different than they've always been?" That's when I reply "Luke Walton." |

Baby Lakers Showing the Franchise There's More Than 1 Way to Build a Team
Quote: | The Los Angeles Lakers' recipe for rebuilding was never supposed to include lemons.
The lordly Lakers' plan was to draw majestic free-agent talent to work alongside (or replace) Kobe Bryant, ensuring the parade of dominant individual Lakers superstars would just march on with new coronations.
Instead, these new-look Lakers have been a sweet little lemonade stand with not-yet-global-but-neighborhood appeal, a place where any of the numerous fresh-faced kids can sell to you as opposed to just one magnetic, almighty Kobe.
There is no superstar here.
No one in the organization disputes that the Lakers backed into their current situation, which has been strangely refreshing. |

Lakers GM knew there'd be bumps in the road
Quote: | The Lakers’ first 10 games: 10th in offensive rating (106.6 points scored per 100 possessions), 15th in defensive rating (103.5 points allowed per 100), 10th in overall net rating (3.1).
The Lakers’ past seven games: 14th in offensive rating (103.9), 30th in defensive rating (117.1), 28th in overall net rating (minus-13.3).
Mitch Kupchak knew there were bumps coming in their road, if only because there always are for teams that won 17 games the season before. |

Great win at home last night (Chick Hearn Night). Good to see DH head back home 0-2 against the Lakers.
Now that was FUN!

GOOD STUFF! Thanks for posting.
* Lakers first-month grades: Only one reason to curb enthusiasm, otherwise L.A. is aces.

Wow. You know when the non-Lakers related media gets on board, they're doing something right. |

I was listening to NBA radio this morning and even Tim Legler commented on how fun it is to watch the Lakers. In contrast, he was saying the opposite of the T-Wolves. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

It may have been ugly but it sure felt good!!!
Great team win with our backs to the wall because of all the injuries.
Randle makes late layup to help Lakers edge Bulls 96-90
Quote: | Coach Luke Walton loved the whole thing.
''If it's a one-on-one situation with space, we feel very confident that he'll win that matchup,'' Walton said.
Got it done in a big moment Wednesday night.
Randle made a strong move against Nikola Mirotic for a tiebreaking layup with 45.1 seconds left, and the Lakers held off the Chicago Bulls for a gritty 96-90 victory.

Now hook us up Adam |
I just sincerely hope that he never burns us like Stern did. |
During Stern's reign as commish, the Lakers were the most successful franchise by a pretty large margin. I know you're probably specifically talking about the Chris Paul ordeal but overall, he was always looking out for the Lakers and he was quite vocal about how great they were for ratings. |
Still the biggest fu in the history of the league. I don't know how many times he reiterated that demps had full authority to act as agent. Once the deal gets ironed out stern completely reneges on everything.
Nash trade, Odom spiral, and pau checkout all direct repercussions of basketball reasons. That effectively killed that laker era. |
