Kobe Bryant says he was nearly late to final game, because was busy editing short stories

Already eliminated from the playoff chase, the Jazz weren’t focused for Kobe Bryant’s final game. They ceded 60 points to the over-the-hill superstar.

How locked in was Kobe?

Kobe via Thu-Huong Ha of Quartz:

“I was actually at the office until 4 or 4:15 editing a bunch of short stories, and lost track of time,” Bryant told the Wall Street Journal’s Dennis K. Berman. “And I looked at my watch, ‘Oh…I better go home. I got my last game to play.’”

Kobe clearly summoned a will to compete by the time he reached the arena. That was a sendoff for the ages.

But this is another sign he was ready for the next chapter in his life.

Interesting.

I'm happy he found something after basketball. I'm even happier, given the circumstances, that he was able to summon the inner mamba for his final sendoff. It was a legendary game people will never forget, and he nearly forgot it himself.

Here's hoping Kobe finds as much joy and fulfillment in his new VC career as he found playing basketball for the past 35 years. If he devotes even as much as 1/2 the effort to this new chapter that he did to the past one, I have little doubt that he's going to unlock all-time greatness once again.

Major disappointment in Kobe, he should have been in the gym shooting.

Kobe's next career path is being a movie director.

Anything is possible with the mamba, but I think his prime directive is to be a player in the venture capital hedge fund arena. I'm sure he'll be as ruthless and relentless in the VC world as we'd all expect.

I dont expect him to be at many games, if any. I can't think of many guys who go to many games after they retire.

Depends on the person Peyton Manning has been to quite a few Broncos games, Volunteer games and a Giants game earlier in the year.

I'm guessing Kobe feels he has to be away from basketball to quit it.

Peyton probably wants to be near football in some capacity.
