The worst possible news ...
What's worse than the '07 plan? The realization that there's no plan at all ...
Nice writeup, emplay. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns". |

Pretty intense column, Eric. Hmmm. I do find it hard to believe there's no plan, though. |

Same here, maybe Eric can tell us specifically why the Lakers choose to do this. |

Nice article. But what the heck was Mitch offering when he called up about Frye? It couldn't be DG, Slava and the Miami pick? If that's what he's offering the dude should be fired for being a joke. Why not offer up Sasha and a pick for Chris Paul then. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

this is starting to become worrisome, are we done for the remainder of this decade as a contender? Or do we have direction? This coming offseason will answer many questions, if so what is phil doing here at 10 million a year? A diversion for the common fans maybe? |

That article doesn't hint at a blockbuster trade, but suggest smaller deals. |

Specifically here's what i got out of the article.
Kwame's option has been added to 3 years there is no more 07 plans which means either
1. ( we have another plan on a different year )
2. ( we have a trade in place that will take us over the top and the Lakers know it will happen )
3. ( they thought the 07 plan was a waste of time )
Thats what i got out of it. |

The article is intentionally vague in that area - it's not worth the flak - and frankly writing about a deal too early can complicate things.
Let's just see what happens - the likelihood of ANY trade going through is always low. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Kwame could be used simply as a roleplayer or filler in a sign-and-trade in 2007 as an expiring contract. Bosh, KG or LeBron would have to threaten Toronto, Minnesota, and Cleveland management - "Trade me to LA, or I will take the qualifying offer and sign with them anyway in 2008." If somebody actually follows through, Kwame would be off the books and either could be signed outright. With the QO, LeBron or Bosh would be UFA's, and KG has his ETO then. |

^ How will they reason with everyone as too y phil was here for the "garbage period" and not here for the "return to dominace period". Makes less and less sense, y would u not have the greates finisher here to star another run?
A trade is looking like the only obvious answer from here onward. Maybe the lakers are seeing all these all stars becoming available in recent times since the shaq trade and knowing an opputrunity will arise soon. I mean, tmac,francis,marbury,A.I,garnett,K-mart,peirce,artest,J.O,...list goes on. The lakers are banking Heavily i mean heavily on bynum if this is the direction their going on...Bynum,Mihm, kobe as keepers potentially. Brown,Odom as trade bait ?? to bring in role players, and thos two are more than enough too fill out a roster through trades. |

Is there any reason why the Lakers will take off the 2007 plan? it just doesn't make sense to me nor does it to any other Laker fan probably i really wanna know why the Lakers choose to do this and make Kobe's prime years suffer more.
there has to be a trade in place or else this Organization is turing into a nightmare. |

I would be all for a Sasha+Odom for KMart + Miller trade. It would involve Melo switching to the 2 maybe, or Odom playing the 4, but either way, I think it might be a good trade for both sides.
I don't see how else we can replace Odom's rebounding and facilitatoring other than a 1 for 2. |

nobody should be alarmed by this. the 07 plan became dead the day amare/yao re-upped. that day it became the 08 plan.
if the lakers see a player that they can get to win now, they will abandon the plan...if not...they will wait. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

I'm happy with this. We have flexibility still, and if Kwame doesn't improve, he becomes a tradeable asset. I think this thinking from the Lakers part comes from seeing Bynum as a hit in the draft, and not a miss. Kobe/Bynum are our building blocks to roll off a title run or two, and Odom/Kwame are loose ends which could go one way or another.
Kobe/Bynum/Odom/Kwame/Pure Shooter is a really good team down the road, with Kobe and Bynum as the 1-2 punch, Odom giving his stat sheet stuff and Kwame post defense and some offense. Shooter is KEY on this team, and always will be. If Odom and/or Kwame don't fit, they can be moved for a very good player, especially contractually, and we are still set.
I think it's a win/win, but I'm not thinking about NOW, but for a long-term future. As in, title contention for years, not playoff contention as we are currently aligned to have. |

Magic is right...we are two players away. One good player, and one role player. Their names are Brevin Knight and Melvin Ely, and we could have them if we throw out enough picks, cash, and contracts.
Let's do it.
Knight gives us fire, and a steady PG. Who cares how short he is?
And Ely gives us a scoring presence in the paint, and a steady rebounder, so that we keep the pressure off Kwame so he doesn't crack before he blossoms. |
