One reason children are being separated from adults is because human trafficking has become such a big problem at the border that these people are pretending that the kids they are smuggling are their own kid. Its not ideal but neither is the situation.

So the question is do you let everyone in freely and take no precaution that some of the children coming through are going to be sold for either sex or harvesting?

"(CNN) When 38 people were found dead or severely injured in the back of a stifling semi-truck, much of the country was appalled.

But these kinds of horrific discoveries happen with alarming frequency.

"Fortunately there are people who survived, but this happens all the time," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Sunday.

Hours earlier, his officers had discovered a sweltering semi truck with dozens of people crammed inside. Eight of them were already dead. Thirty others were severely injured, including many who will have "irreversible brain damage," the city's fire chief said. One of the injured died later at the hospital.

Once again, San Antonio has become an unwilling epicenter of human smuggling and trafficking.

A trafficking hub
San Antonio is just over two hours from the Mexican border at Nuevo Laredo. It sits at the intersection of three major interstates and has become a center for human traffickers bringing in undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

And the advocacy group San Antonio Against Slavery says Texas has "a significant problem with human trafficking"

"Despite growing awareness about this crime, human trafficking continues to go under-reported due to its covert nature, misconceptions about its definition, and a lack of awareness about its indicators," the agency said.

What may be surprising is where the highest rate of human trafficking is found

The National Human Trafficking Hotline shows most reports of human trafficking are from the border states of California (1,323 in 2016) and Texas (670 in 2016).

But when you divide the number of reports by the total population, the District of Columbia actually has the most reported cases of human trafficking per capita, according to data from the NHTH.

And smuggled children are certainly at risk for human trafficking, the United Nations' children's agency UNICEF and World Without Exploitation said in a joint statement.

"Smugglers also take advantage of children and their families by extorting them with threats and false promises," they said.

Now I get it. They are threatening to take kids away from parents as a deterrent, and then actually doing it, and taking the kids contact numbers away from them and shipping them all over the country and reporting their actual parents to stop human trafficking of kids. Lol, they didn’t even try to claim that one, but their base will look for anything...

FWIW, the whole human trafficking thing has been pushed out over the last few days over the fringe and not so fringe right wing media, culminating with Trump talking about it today. One of the more interesting thing about our periodic trolls is how immediately and accurately they run with the propaganda as fed to them, regardless of how silly it is. Pavlovian.

Reading some of these posts about how these kids of illegal immigrants are being treated at these detention centers, I'm starting to wonder if this has become more shameful for our country than even the invasion of Iraq/war on terror. I'm leaning towards yes, and it's only been about a week or two.
