That's quite a setback for "Soviet" Georgia.

Speaking of this, did anyone catch Rachel's opening segment on Moscow Mitch? I would really like to see him or one of his lackey's come on her show to defend him on this and to present his side. Russia (Derapaska) is lookng for eight more Moscow Mitch's to set up aluminum plants throughout the US, like they are doing in Kentucky, which embeds him so tightly in the US that sanctions against him (which is the/a most effective sanction tool against a Russia that has little industry) could not be pursued as it would effect American jobs. Though it is not treasonous by definition, it surely is working with the enemy.

This is just the surface of that really scary segment.

Yeah, she really put the smack down on him. She tied all the pieces together. I wish someone could turn the thing into a 60-second ad. I also hope he gets investigated by some official body -- but as long as Trump and Barr are in charge of DOJ, and McConnell can block Senate investigation into his own wrongdoings, it will probably have to wait until 2020. But this is corruption at the highest level of the worst kind, only rivaled by Trump colluding with Russia to steal the presidency.

(I do think there might be some interest in the House to investigate this to go along with the hundreds of other corrupt trails they would have to follow due to Trump's wide spread corruption which includes every one of his cabinet members who has each has their own corruption scandal. There aren't enough members of the House to follow them all. #MostCorruptAdministrationInHistory)

In 2018, Amazon paid $0 in U.S. federal income tax on more than $11 billion in profits before taxes. It also received a $129 million tax rebate from the federal government.

Amazon’s low tax bill mainly stemmed from the Republican tax cuts of 2017, carryforward losses from years when the company was not profitable, tax credits for massive investments in R&D and stock-based employee compensation.

Jeff Bezos’ company is not the only corporation getting money back from the federal government. For example, General Motors also reported a net federal income tax benefit in 2018.

I continue to believe there should be a substantial minimum tax that all corporations must pay, say 15%. That is, no matter how much they can muster up to offset their tax obligation, they can only reduce their tax obligation to the 15% of adjusted gross income threshold.

Warren Catches Up to Biden in New National Poll

Quote:
Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren are polling within just one percentage point of each other as Warren catches up to the former vice president, who has led the pack of Democratic presidential candidates nationally for weeks.

Biden stands at 21 percent support, while Warren is right behind him at 20 percent, up four points from last week, according to the latest national Economist–YouGov poll.

Trailing them are Senator Bernie Sanders, who gained three points from last week to clock in at 16 percent support, and Senator Kamala Harris, who is polling at 8 percent. Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke and South Bend, Ind. mayor Pete Buttigieg are next, both at 5 percent, and Senators Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand follow at 2 percent. The rest of the Democratic presidential contenders are at 1 percent or lower.

I'm sure other polls will have Biden with a larger lead, but still notable.

Not an economist, but I’ve been following Yang and he’s pushing a VAT for certain industries. I have a very rudimentary understanding of what that is but I do know there is no going around it. Thoughts on a VAT?

At times I've thought about how this would play in the US, and as always, the devil is in the details. Since a VAT tax is regressive, since low income people spend such a high proportion of their income on goods, it would need offsetting (like what goods, and to what extent, would qualify for the tax), at least for those of us who strongly believe in progressive taxation. As such, the work around to get everyone to buy-in is probably next to impossible.

Happy to see this. She's the best candidate in the field. Whether she wins the nomination or not, her platform should be adopted by the party ASAP. She is on the right side of every issue. And she has clear common sense plans that address the biggest issue in our country, wealth and income inequality. She is the right person to lead our country in 2020 and beyond.

When Fox News did their impeachment polling. Unlike most of the other polls. They ONLY polled voters. I wonder if it's the same for this poll.

I'll vote for Biden if he's the nominee. But... damn. He just doesn't understand 2020 America.

I'm shocked that Denmark was not interested in selling Greenland to the US. The fact that they laughed at the idea and pretty much called the cheeto a joke is even more surprising.
