Feels inevitable at this point. This season means nothing if Phil comes back to manage the team. Also anyone who's a big fan of what Luke's doing currently should not hope for a manager to come here and micromanage his gameplan.

Dont think he will. This team has changed direction and is on the way up, I believe that Jim not only deserves the job but has done a masterful job rebuilding this roster so far.

Like the new style Lakers. Well done Jim!

💤

Both franchises are in the playoff hunt.
This article is click bait. I think both NY and LA stay pat. No big FO changes after this season.

No to Phil. He undermined his head coach a few games into the season by naming Rambis "defensive coordinator". Ridiculous. Phil comes back to the Lakers, next thing you know Rambis will be the "co-head coach". Phil really wanted to give Rambis the Knicks job last summer but he knew the players and NY media would run him out of Dodge if he did that.

And judging by the reactions I see in this thread, the comment in Heisler's column about "Lakerdom once again turns its lonely eyes to Phil" is utter nonsense. Maybe Heisler (and Jeanie of course) is jonesing for Phil, but really I don't think that's the prevailing opinion of "Lakerdom".

We're on the road to whatever the future holds, and we're off to a promising start. Still a long way to go, but Phil is a step backwards. He's of the past. As another poster pointed out, his reputation has been hurt by his stint with the Knicks.

As some of us predicted, Phil is the LAST coach in the NBA who will ever succeed with the Tri. The players simply don't want to deal with it. He insulted today's players by saying they lack the skills or whatever to run the Tri. That may be true, but he's not going to win the hearts and minds of players with that. And certainly his "posse" comment has damaged him, even though I don't think he meant it the way it came off. Nobody in the NBA at this point is dying to come play under this guy's auspices.

Phil was a great coach. I thank him for the great times and the championships. I don't blame him for taking $60 million of the Knicks money. They were dumb enough to give it to him, so more power to the guy. But his day is done. "Lakerdom" doesn't need him.

The Triangle stopped being effective when Texas Winters retired.

No thanks Phil. Have some free seats to the game on the Lakers, but they have a good thing going on right now.

Last thing we need is his meddling and insisting that Rambis join the staff and Luke run the Triangle.

I really don't care one way or the other just as long as he leaves the triangle in NYC.

Nobody won using the Tri without Tex.

Phil was great managing egos and using his mind games, but Tex was the genius behind the Tri and the guy willing to teach those little needed things like footwork.

We sucked in the draft when he was here. I know our scouting department has changed, so it's not all Phil, but I just remember all of our discussions around here being about "triangle fit". Ugh...so glad we don't have that anymore. It would be so Phil-like to swoop in as the team is on an upswing though.

I'am so tired hearing Phil talking about the damn triangle in New York. Can't imagine what it would be if he did that in L.A. too. Since they told Phil to sit back N.Y. has been playing better.

The answer should be a resounding NO. this team has exceeded expectation and is playing a fun brand of basketball. We don't need Phil to force feed his triangle to this team especially when we don't even have the triangle pieces on this team. Plus we don't want the drama comes along with Phil.

However, the bigger concern is who and why this got leaked out. This is by NY Daily News, not some tabloid paper by your supermarket's cashier. I'm 10000% positive Jeannie is behind this. She just can't stomach her brother Jim may actually succeed with his rebuilding plan, so she's throwing this wrench. If this is true (personally I think it is), she should be removed herself from everything Lakers related, she's starting to be a cancer rather than an owner if she's willing to sacrifice team's bright future just to satisfy her own ego and revenge on some grudge.

NY Daily News is basically tabloid garbage.

Keep Phil away from this team. That boat sailed away a lonnggg time ago. Mitch and Jim have this under control and are moving the franchise in the right direction. Let them enjoy these good times after enduring the past few seasons.

The only reason Phil would wind up here is if Jeanie cares more about her relationship than the state of the Lakers going forward in the right direction.

And if that's the case, she's unfit to be the boss.

I've never had reason to believe otherwise.

this probably is some made up rumor by NY Daily News. but there's an old saying in China: there won't be any wave without any kind of wind. meaning we're seeing this rumor because someone in Lakers fed it directly or indirectly to NYD, and if that's true, then no doubt that person is Jeanie Buss.
