Not sure why the OP was taking a shot at Lou, but Tony Allen is definitely an impact player with his defense.
I agree the Lakers would really benefit from a player like that. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Well, Tony Allen is a free agent this summer. Why not? |

Who are some younger players with Allen's impact on D? _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Bradley is a lot better offensively than Allen. He is the perfect 3&d guy that every team wants. |

Wished we could make room on the roster for GPII.

Could always cut MWP and give him another job but why GPII went undrafted? What was the knock? |

Lacks point guard skills, can't shoot, can't pass, older than most of the other guys in the draft. All he had going for him was athleticism and defense. I am kind of surprised he didn't get picked up in the second round though. |

We say we need a Tony Allen until we get one and then we say that we need someone who can shoot the ball.

I hate the name memes, but I couldn't help it and read the title of this thread as Tony Alien.

It all comes down to who's actually available that would be more of a positive than a negative? |

We do have a max FA slot so maybe more like in addition to the young guns |

He was awful in Summer League.
He has the size though to play combo guard. |

We'd all love to add a max FA. Hayward or punt for P. George.
Other than them, unless we're looking to trade, we'd add depth correct?
We shouldn't sign a defensive specialist when we have a player that not only should grow into one, but should also be able to play on the other side of the ball.
We'll be looking to replace Huertas/Calderon/MWP next year,
and I wouldn't mind picking up a young cheap wing next year. At the same time, I'd rather have Nick Young on the court than Julian Jacobs or A. Brown 19/20 times. I wouldn't trade Young for T.Allen or Sefolosha either. Especially because we have Ingram.
We have most of the archetypes even if people don't realize it. They're just young/hurt right now. |

Unlike offense, defense takes some experience to become good at. You have to go through the reps to instinctively know how to react, both individually and as a team. If guys like Russell and Clarkson put in the work, they can become above average defensive players in a couple years. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

then there is tony allen, who basically scores nothing, but guards the best players every night. he put the clamps on Lou and leads his team to the win with defence alone. that is why the girzzles are 13-8. |
Heck what team wouldn't want a Tony Allen playing 20 minutes for them; he's one of the best defenders in NBA history. Not easy to find a guard that elite level of defense. Did you have someone in mind? |

That's if they don't make Huertas' salary guaranteed next year because it's unguaranteed next season for the moment. |

Well if we are punting cap space away for 2018 don't you think it makes sense to guarantee Black and Huertas' for next year, and Nick opts in? So we would only need to spend about $10 million hopefully for one year just to stay at salary floor level. |

I like Black. I doubt Nick opts in but I'd love him to. I'll take the Metta/Huertas vet presences this year, but I'd prefer to go a different direction next. I think there's quite a diminishing return going into next year of what "off court" value they have to offer. Not to mention they're another year older. |
