Wow, I saw yesterday that he was hospitalized but hadn't heard he had passed away. What a maverick at one time.

RIP - what an amazing achievement. I don't know what happened in the Keating scandal, but otherwise a wonderful life of service and drive. Met his wife when he was 3 and she was 4 lol. Guess there's some luck beyond the hard work.

What a life this man lived.

The word "legend" gets thrown around too often these days, but John Glenn was a true American Legend.

A true hero in every dimension. He had the right stuff.

Quote:
“John Glenn? Oh … could he fly an airplane,” Williams once told the Chicago Tribune‘s Bob Greene. “Absolutely fearless. The best I ever saw. It was an honor to fly with him.”

Quote:
“This was a man destined for something great; it was an intuitive feeling I had” wrote Williams. “John always had exceptional self-control and was one of the calmest men I have ever met, no matter how perilous the situation.”

Quote:
In one especially difficult moment, Williams recalled how Glenn offered advice that helped Williams fly back to base safely. After getting hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire, Williams’s F9F Panther jet was ablaze. Glenn flew next to his wing and pointed up. Flying higher into thinner air, the fire was extinguished, allowing Williams to fly back to base.

-Baseball legend Ted Williams, who served in Korea as John Glenn's wingman on combat missions.

The Smithsonian had this memorial set up for John Glenn today under the Space Shuttle Discovery, in which he became the oldest man to fly in space.
