I have my own thoughts on how this would work, but I'll throw this out to everyone (assuming no one has posted a topic just for this)...

If Cook were to drop about 20 lbs or so, how do people think about sliding him to the small forward spot ala Glen Rice (because I doubt he would be able to defend well regardless of position)?

This, with the assumption that Odom gets moved to PF, or the bench, or traded, whatever, this is soley speculation and debate.

Cook would have major trouble guarding SFs. Even with 20 pounds off, his lateral quickness would probably be lacking. Plus, that would give him even more reasons not to box out (I'm too far from the basket to get boards). I like him as a backup PF. If he can shoot consistently (45% from outside), he'll always get his looks and get the points we need.

He reminds me of a less clutch version of Robert Horry.

Only if you ignore defense completely.
A young Horry was a very good defender at the 3, quick, agile, long.
An old Horry is a decent defender at the 4, and some at the 3.
Also, Horry has great, great basketball smarts.

Cook has tried being 20 pounds lighter, but the elite SFs in the NBA are too quick for him to guard. Cook can guard PFs. He's improving his defense.

Cook may have a super-fast release and be a dangerous outside shooter (very dangerous because he's so streaky) but quick is something he's not. That dude might be the slowest person in the NBA and it's not because of his weight. He's just slow. Putting him on 3 duty would expose him even more defensively.

Cook has already improved tremendously with his activity on the court and he is already a great shooter. I think there is little more that can be asked of him.

If Cook did that then we would have an American version of Peja. Great shooter, no D. It would work in the right offense. But I don't know if it would work with us.

I think Cook can play very well with a dominant big man. I think that Bynum and Cook can play well together bc of spacing. Cook on the outside, Bynum on the inside. I think Cook should start, but maybe in Bynum's third year when Drew is starting as well. Till then Kwame will have to do the job. We have big men don't we? I mean Turiaf should be thrown in there too, with Mihm and Odom....
