That genuinely hurts bad teams that are run poorly (but may not be blatantly tanking).
Say you have the Warriors winning an NBA Final and then the lottery, how does that benefit the rest of the NBA?
Or if the #1-3 picks randomly are the top 3 teams of the NBA? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

well than 1/14 chance for top 3 rest in order of finish but still eliminate any protections on future traded picks |

As long as we're bringing up highly relevant topics, could someone go find a Shaq v Kobe thread? |

Flatten out the odds:
Picks #1 & #2 percentages = 10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2
pick #3 1/14th each
pick #4 1/22 (all teams not in 2nd round of playoffs)
5+ by record
#1 winner cannot get top 2 for 2 years and #3 for 1 year
#2 winner cannot get top 3 the next year
- Pick swaps count as a traded pick in the "cannot trade consecutive picks" rules. |

How about all the lottery teams get the same odds, and all the lottery picks are determined by the ping pong balls? |

Eliminate the lottery and draft completely.
Rookies are free agents.
But have a hard cap. No extra taxes or vet mins that send you over the cap. Let teams spend on roster building as they like.
Once they hit the mark no further moves can be made. NBAPA would not like it. But it would certainly change the dynamics of the League.
How much would a Fultz or Ball get paid on the open market? Would teams give the James and Durant type players 50% + of the cap or spend money on multiple contributors.
Just for fun. (Although I hate this concept)- If you really wanted to shake things up and make it fun ....make all contracts one year. Every summer the talent could be re-shuffled and rosters revamped.
Team loyalty is slowly losing out to fantasy league approaches anyways. Why not embrace it. |

How crazy is it that there is a future in which we could get the #1 pick, Lebron, and PG next summer.
Lonzo
PG
Ingram
Bron
Bagley
Bench:
Clarkson
Randle
Kuzma
Nance
Just as GSW is the best ever 3 point shooting modern team, the 2018-19 Lakers would be the best ever versatile modern team |
