BBall Breakdown has one of my favorite Lakers videos ever on Nance. So many things he does help the team, but they'll never end up in a traditional boxscore.

That means we can sign Nick after he opts out starting July 1, assuming he doesn't get waived between now and the end of the year, which would be monumentally stupid.

It was Bard confirmed in another thread. We could sign him again. He loves LA so we'd probably have the edge.

Unbelievable how much he has fallen.

But honestly, Zu > Okafor

I love Zu, but Okafor would be a great long term fit with Russell/Ingram.

If both were able to be taken in the 2017 Draft, Zu would sneak into the Top 10, while Okafor would almost certainly fall out of the lottery altogether, and maybe out of the top 20-25.

Any move for Okafor would be about grabbing a distressed asset, not roster building. One can Joke the asset is (permanently) impaired as opposed to distressed. But if Magic and team see him as being undervalued it could be a move they look at. Of course the price is important. Jordan and a first would be outrageous. If they even wanted to talk Jordan there would need to be something more than Oak.

I would take him opting out of his contract as ending it, so

July 1, 2017 versus February 23, 2018 (one year anniversary of trade)

Not sure if it's reliable.

While I like Okafor as a prospect, we already have a great big man prospect in Zu (inferior post game but better defense and rebounding).

a three way deal where the Kings get Okafor and we get a 2nd rounder or something perhaps?

Makes more sense for Okafor to go to the Kings after getting rid of Cousins.

Why would they need to expand the deal so the Lakers could get a second round pick?

I'd take a chance on Oak. Though I wouldn't give up anything meaningful .

If we can get PG I really don't give a damn about pick this summer. I am sick of these tank and losing just to get one more prospect to wait for 3-4 years. We have HOU pick. Its OK to take some good player. Lets move forward and try to win as much as possible.

The problem with that though is that the NBA doesn't lend itself well to mediocrity. There's no benefit to being a 9th seed which is likely what we'd be if we gave up the assets to acquire George.

At that point we'd neither be winning, nor building for the future and simply scrambling to acquire enough talent with no assets to convince George not to bolt in free agency and leave us a lottery team for 4 years the same way Dwight Howard did.

Lakers were looking to dump Nick Young and Young preferred Houston. MDA pushed for it, but Morey denied.

Something from CyberX on CF about Young.

True. No Clarkson. 1st might be pushing it. I'll give up the second round pick we get from Swaggy

I think ultimately Okafor gets traded for Chicago for Nik Mirotic and a top-10 protected 2017 1st round pick.

If we could get Okafor for cheap I'd do it in a sec. I think'd he fit in pretty well with the young guys in terms of skills. When we struggle from outside he is a dependable option inside.

At worst I think he is an amazing center off the bench. If he can put some defense together then obviously it goes up.

A future tandem of Zu and Okafor sounds good to me, especially because as a young guy I think Okafor is more ready to contribute now, so Zu backing up Oak and then eventually the other way around.

If they both develop into full time starting centers, then we a great asset.

Wouldn't trade the moon for him, but the Rockets 1st round pick? Wouldn't hesitate. We've done well with the draft recently, but 27th is still a bit of a crap shoot compared to a known quantity.

I wouldn't mind having okafor also. Like you said, whichever develop better between Zu and Oak then figure it out later. The question is if JC + HOU 1st is a fair price for Oak + filler? I say it's fair but personally I like JC in the team

I don't see Chicago paying that much for Oak.

I think his price is a late 1st at this point.

Bulls came into process hoping they could find a late 1st round pick somewhere. Doesn't sound like there is much value for Mirotic right now

Reports say philly is still looking to get a 1st round pick for him, his value is way down.
