Charles Barkely's point taken: Don't see any potentially great players on the Lakers just very good players.

Not just the Lakers, I don't see too many young standout players in the league. Most players in this league look interchangeable. Could the 3 point shot be the blame?

That was basically God's sign that the Lakers are filled with players with great potential and they'll reach their potential.

I'm not sure what else Laker fans need.

I am guessing Barkley or anyone would have claimed Steph Curry would be an MVP level player during his 2nd or 3rd year? Would he have thought Draymond Green would be an All-Star or annually discussed for DPOY in his sophomore campaign? How about Klay Thompson scoring 60 points in a game for a championship team when he was only about 100 games into his career? Was Kyle Lowry adn Demar Derozan franchise type looking players in year number #2? When Paul George was averaging 7 points his rookie season....did Barkley see a player that was a lock to get offered a super max contract in his mid-20's?

Barkley is paid to be entertaining and make hot takes.....but we have to wait a couple years to really know what a player will become.

Barkley's opinion means nothing. He admits that he barely watches NBA games, and even goes out of his way to clown on the Warriors. Yes, the team with Durant, Curry, Klay, and Green. Now he may be right in this case, but it isn't because he actually does any research or watches us nightly. People seem to forget that guys like Harden and Westbrook took a few years to even start showing signs of greatness.

Fans like that want impossible instant gratification.

Same guy who said the Warriors can't win with their style of play.

Same guy who said the Knicks will make the playoffs last season.

Same guy who can't tell which team a player plays for which TNT has a actual segment making fun of him for it.

His track record is as bad as ours about our own team. Haha.

To be fair the first point the only reason GS won was due to other teams having injury..

They went 73-9 last season and lost the championship by four points in game seven.

Not saying I disagree, but he said Kenny is overrating them because he's a homer. When Kenny pressed him to name teams that do have "special young talent" aside from Philly he could only think of Phoenix. The irony

Sometimes they sneak away from you like Tyreke/OJ Mayo.

Huge news! 6 time NBA champ, 10 time coach of the year, 5 time gm of the year, gold nugget scout of the year Charles Barkley has an opinion about a team he's loved his whole life.

Or am I missing something here?

Sir Charles said the Warriors style of play is "girly" and they would never win a championship as a jump shooting team

Charles is right, there are no great players on this team.

And to the guy above who said there aren't many great players in the league right now, you crazy man. This may be the one of the most talent rich times in NBA history.

James
Durant
Curry
Leonard
Westbrook
Davis
Harden
Cousins
Butler

All of these guys are top tier, cornerstone franchise players. Plus you got the next level guys who are all really really good and borderline franchise guys.

Lillard
Lowry
Wall
George
Griffin
Green
Thompson
Aldridge
And many more

Then you got a bunch of old guys who are still ballin like Wade and Gasol. Yeah there is a ton of talent in the league right now. Unfortunately we have none of it.

I wouldn't say no one saw Steph being this good, a couple of people did, and they were regularly mocked for their proclamations. Early on people thought Steph might not even last in the league because of bad ankles.

NOBODY saw Draymond being as good as he is right now.

DeMar Derozan was seen as a solid sixth man at BEST early in his career.

Anybody telling you that they always knew Kawhi Leonard would be this good is a damn liar.

It takes time for player to develop, especially in this era of basketball. Few guys come into the league ready to tear things up on day one. People need to have patience.

Many of the guys you just listed weren't originally pegged to be great players early in their careers.

Hell it was looking like Draymond Green wouldn't last in the league early in his career.

DLo can be great if he wants to be. Right now he looks out of sorts trying to run the offense perfectly each play. I'm starting to agree with the ones who want to bring in a PG and let DLo be more of an attack player rather than him worrying about getting Julius or Mozgov going.

It feels like the lakers will need a couple iterations to get it right. I'd agree with him that there are no great players on the lakers right now but to completely dismiss the potential is a bit short sighted.

If this were someone with some sort of gravitas id say it would be good motivation for the team, but Barkley is a joke, so I doubt anybody cares.
