Does insurance kick in if a car is stolen? I guess that is something I need to ask the lizard. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I am sorry this happened to you. It feels like such a personal violation when a thief steals your property.
I had an older car stolen from right in front of my house about 15 years ago. Turns out they wanted the nice stereo I had literally just bought and had installed....in my instance, I am 99% certain it was bad dudes working as mechanics at my local Pep Boys who had my car and keys and address in their possession from work I had done the day before and they saw the stereo and boxes for it still in the car.
The car was left two miles away with the stereo and speakers ripped out. I was pissed, but I guess you have to just be glad it was only property.
Sorry that happened to you my friend, that stinks. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Wait a minute. Some crazy dude actually drove around in a stolen car for 8 years? That's an effen amazing feat for some inbred looking mofo to pull off! Cops usually find reasons to pull over those types of creeps. You've got guys like the one in Minnesota who can't seem to make it 2 weeks without getting pulled over, yet this moron drives an actual stolen vehicle for the amount of time that it takes someone to graduate both high school and college without getting nabbed. Only in America!
I've had 2 cars and a motorcycle stolen over the years. The 1st car I just stood there with keys in hand in disbelief. I thought I must have parked it some place else. Walked around the block before it finally sank in that it had been stolen. That vehicle was never recovered.
The motorcycle was stolen right out of my garage and never recovered. I'd always suspected it was a friend of someone in the neighborhood who had noticed my schedule of being absent weekdays every week.
The 2nd car was sitting on the street in front of my house. I'd already purchased another car and was just waiting for when I had time replace the water pump (new pump was sitting on the back seat when stolen). I was laughing with the Officer taking the police report about the jerks not likely being able to get very far due to the car going into limp mode after it heats up due to the bad pump. Later during the report, the car was spotted stalled and trying to be restarted at an intersection. The arsewipes got it started and when they noticed the cop circle behind them. They both jumped out running and left the vehicle to meander across the intersection where it was clipped on the rear before smashing into a lamp post. I had dropped the comprehensive and collision coverage on it when I purchased a new vehicle, so I had to just eat the entire loss. The thieve turned out to be employees of a dealership where I had the car serviced previously. They had keys made. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. Aussie - I felt the same way you did with your 1st car. I was in shock at first. Then I thought maybe I parked it on the street. I knew I didn't but I was hoping I did. I walked up and down the street a couple of times then reality started to set in. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Never had a car stolen, although I had a van broken into twice and the second time the DB tied to jimmy the ignition with a screwdriver.
I did a number things including:
1. May a U-Shaped Collar with a pad-lock that covered the ignition.
2. Installed a audible alarm, with a loud horn.
3. Installed an alarm that paged me when a door was opened.
4. Installed a round-keyed kill switch right in the dash and ran the wires up so high under the dash, that there was no way to disable it.
Never had it messed with again.
I had a friend who installed a locking gas valve and he could lock down his fuel line. His van was stolen at the Long Beach Arena and he found it a block away - as it had run out of gas...
There are ways to protect your vehicle, just have to be smarter than the brain-deads that want to steal it! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Not that it is "funny" but that was exactly my reaction. I kept looking around my house like "did I park it somewhere else" or what the heck is it.
I thought at first maybe my wife was playing a joke on me or something, it took a few minutes before I actually realized the damn junker was stolen! _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

That's absolutely the typical reaction. I walked around my block a couple of times trying to figure out where I may have parked even though I knew full well I parked in our apartment's disunited spot. I knew my car was stolen immediately, but spent time trying to process it in hopes that for some reason I was wrong and had just made a mistake. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Wow, sorry to hear, bro.
I have recently had some stuff stolen from my car and in college had about 1500 bucks worth of car stereo equipment stolen during Finals. Horrible and ugly feeling. I wish I could go back and catch the people in the act just to serve up some street justice. So, I can imagine getting the entire car stolen must feel terrible. Keep your head up, though. in the end it is ONLY property and you'll be back on the road soon enough. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

It does if you have comprehensive insurance. It's really not that much more to add to a premium and I encourage to add it. _________________ KOBE |

That's messed up 32. They stole it on Christmas day too? Here's both a warning to the thieves, and entreaty to you:
Thieves: Karma, payback, what goes around comes around, and all that, is a (bleep). Watch!
32: It's a horrible feeling to have our possessions taken like that. Be strong, stay focused, and before you know it, you'll be riding again (if your not already) This too shall pass. Seek to remain possible as it does. |

I haven't had my car stolen, but have had it broken into twice. The insurance industry is so messed up...With as much as I pay to have my car insured (no accidents/tickets), if some ***hole decides to be a scumbag and cause you a huge inconvenience, you're the one forced to clean up everything, and to pay to get things replaced. Everything is always just under the deductible.
I hope you find your car, and I hope those scumbags get found and locked up for about 20 years. |

Such a horrible feeling . Had NY Jimmy GMC stolen when I was 18. Then I got robbed again at the impound. Those bastards took the CDs, cologne, CD sleeve (for visor) and change.
The people who robbed me , at gun point, left the car 15 minutes away. The truck was found 30 mins later. They didn't even take the removable face-cd player (optimus for the radio shack win!)
Hope you find it intact. |

Sorry to hear. It is such a horrible feeling. I hope you get it back in good shape.
I had mine stolen in 1981 while I was at a movie on a first date. I got it back a few weeks later stripped of most of the interior. Same story about tow/impound fees. What a scam. Thing is that it was just the latest in a string of car break ins for me. I had lost a few stereos (and windows) in the years leading up to that. It was that exact moment standing in front of a theater that I decided that I needed to get out of LA. |

If you haven't already done so, make sure to report the theft to your insurance company. I know you didn't have comprehensive, but you still want to make sure your arse is covered in the event the vehicle is being driven by the thief and he gets into an accident. You following proper reporting procedures will make life a lot easier in the event that does happen.
Another thing, if your car is recovered, pay close attention to just where it was towed from. If it was found and towed from public property (like streetside) then goto that scene and read the parking signs. Unless it was in an immediate tow away zone, they aren't allowed to tow it without a signed authorisation. More often than not, tow companies will tow anyway when they find out it's been reported stolen. They still need a Police officers, or owners, signed release if the vehicle isn't currently in a violative state where it's parked. Tow companies realise you won't likely be aware of this and will tow it anyway so they can strong arm you into paying them fees. If they've towed it without cause, then it'll at least give you the chance to see if the vehicle passes the eyeball test (like looking through the fence at the tow yard to see if it's been obviously damaged - they won't let you in to take a look because they don't want to do anything that distances them from collecting potential money from you). Goto to the scene o the tow BEFORE going to the tow yard, take pictures of the parking signs, and demand they show you proper release paperwork before you'll even discuss towing fees.
I hate to say it, but unless the vehicle is undamaged, it's generally better that it's not recovered. Tow fees plus damage repair is seldom cost effective for an older vehicle. Good luck brother, and at least the theft occured on last years clock. Your new year is a clean slate and you've got a great chance at a stellar year! Good luck brother! _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. Over the Top, On the edge, Under the Radar, and In Control. 32, everything will be okay. It may not be now and it may seem like a difficult time but months from now you will look back and laugh. It's so difficult to deal with these situations..unplanned financial debacles - absolutely brutal and crushing. You will live though so don't sweat it. Good luck! |

I got a copy of a report from the LAPD today that said they found my car and it was impounded on January 1st and taken to a tow yard near me. I called the tow yard but they couldn't tell me anything about the car. They said I have to contact the detective on my case to help me get it released. The tow yard said right now I owe something like $252. I hope I don't get charged for storage fees. Nobody ever contacted me. Based on the police report it appears the condition of the car is good. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |
