Been wondering for a while now if the Lakers' plan is to have West eventually become GM, but he has to be ready, as LC alluded to. With Mitch 63, there's no reason he can't continue to be the GM for a little while longer. I wonder if West would be ready in 3-4 years. As long as the organization is high on West, I don't know that it would be smart for Mitch to be let go, and to then hire somebody else, which would essentially be bypassing West, since it's likely that he'll be ready very soon. Then you run the risk of his taking another job with another organization that might want to hire him as GM. So I think that--I hope that--the Lakers' plan is to have Mitch stay on for a while longer, and when Ryan is ready, you hand it over to him. I think it makes all the sense in the world. Of course, he has to be capable, but knowing what I know about what he's already done in the FO, his background, and what he will continue to absorb in his current role, I think he will eventually be the right person for the job.

I think that's the thinking in the FO, Mitch will hang around for a few more years, during which time West will probably steadily take on more responsibilities, and depending on how he does, he can eventually take over when the time comes.

Hopefully the team is sold by the time Mitch decides to retire.

I wish we could sticky LC's comments for a few years.

There hasn't been a son this hyped since Jesus.

That happened later. During his career, he was getting killed...

It will but not until the Spectrum deal ends and another 2-3 years of losing. That extra dough is keeping the team in the Buss family afloat.

That deal expires in 2033 right after Mitch turns 80.

All I know is Mitch is the only good thing about the FO and if he leaves, we will regret it.

Hyperbole and uneducated speculation is more fun than facts. It has been proven trillions of times in labs with science guys and machines.

There really isn't any indication that the Buss family has any plans to sell the Lakers. And even as the steam has stunk, the revenues and profits have increased, so I don't assume all those Buss kids have the same sense of desperation that some fans do.

And my guess is Jim and Jeanie like running the team more than they would like filling their bank accounts with money they don't really need, so I think we're still a good 10 years away from the team being sold, if ever.

Be careful what you wish for. I wanted the O'Mallys to sell the Dodgers and look where that got us.
