I agree, NPZ. Another example of them as a flyover franchise was banishing Nique to the Clipps in 94 while they were midway thru a Renaissance season with Jordan playing baseball. Hawks were playing great as a scrappy, unselfish passing unit with no superstar but an aged Nique. |
I can see why they traded him, though. His contract expired that season, and they didn't want to give him the big extension he wanted. Considering he was out of the league within two years, it wasn't a terrible move on their part.
And they traded him for an all star who looked like he might blossom into a superstar in Danny Manning. |

skip to 8:40 to hear Drob talk about pistol pete.
pistol pete has an absolutely amazing story
he passes like magic (magic openly admits he learned his style from him)
he shoots like curry
he didn't have either one's teammates, not even close
no championships
no glory
every remotely good player post 80s is ranked above him |
didn't know that, that's really cool. |

The closest we saw to Pistol Pete in modern era is Jason Williams.
Except, Pistol Pete made shots, and lit up the Knicks for 68 points against All D 1st team, Walt Frazier.
His best years were still at the NCAA level. Average 44PPG through 3 seasons shooting roughly 45%. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Wilkins was unique. He played with diabetes. That may have also played into the decision to trade him. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
