Lakers have played 41 games, halfway through the season
Record: 15-26, .366 - which projects to 30 wins for the season at this rate, of course
currently 12th in the West, 18.5 games behind 1st place
21 road games so far - only 3 other teams in the West have as many road games

#8 Portland has played 39 games, 16-23 record (.410), with 21 road games also. They're currently 16.5 behind 1st, so we're only 2 games out of the 8th spot

#7 OKC has played 38 games, 22-16 record (.579), with only 18 road games. 10 games behind 1st - mathematically & logically speaking, that's pretty much out of reach

I'm still predicting (hoping) that the Lakers will continue to improve their play in the 2nd half of the season, and finish with more than 30 wins the current rate projects to.

It would probably be a pretty big moral & emotional victory to a young team to make the playoffs if they can pull that off, even though they'd end losing pretty badly in the 1st round vs GSW or the Spurs.

If Lakers get 30+ wins, Luke HAS to be a candidate for COTY...

The way the Houston Rockets are playing...I regretfully have to say it will be Mike D'Antoni.

I want to say without the injuries they probably would be 18-23. Anyway, I would take 30+ wins; just keep getting better and better.

We'd have to win at least 35 games for Luke to have a real shot. Even then, D'Antoni probably takes it.

I think we win more games in the 2nd half than we won in the 1st if we stay healthy.

Those December injuries killed the momentum we started the season with.

Yup, that and the fact that we had the toughest schedule in the league.

It is all downhill from here schedule wise. Lots of home games and time to practice.

If we stay healthy, we can make some noise!

Same here. I was just thinking earlier that it'd be great to win more games in the second half of this season than we did all of last season. Hopefully healthy allows for this.

we have 21 home games left and 16/24 games in Staples after the All Star Break if we can go like 16-5 at home the rest of the way we can challenge for that 8 spot

Our record is exactly what I thought it would be at the end of the year. .500 at home and .250 on the road. Can't wait to blow that expectation away as we get better in the 2nd half.

Yeah, the young guys just have to keep up the momentum. Hopefully we'll see Deng and Moz get more comfortable, too.

I dont think that we'll make the playoffs. I would be overjoyed if we did. But I think that the lack of experience will stop us a little short of making the playoffs this year. And I'm completely okay with that. These guys are way too young. Before the season started, I said that I would be very happy with 27-29 wins. Needless to say, with the season going like it is, and considering the injuries and setbacks, these guys are amazing and I really really like our team. I think Luke is an incredible coach and mentor for these guys and the angry timeout that he called last night and the way he ripped into those guys showed everyone (including his team) that he wants Laker glory as much as them. This season is fine. Let's hope that the kids keep improving and lets buckle up for next year, fellas!

I have us going 24-17 in the second half.

Puts us at 39-43 for the season.

My preseason prediction was 30-32 wins, but after a couple weeks I re-calibrated and thought we'd approach 40. Barring any major injuries, we're right on pace.

Well, if you account for the injuries and setbacks of December, I think you'd be very happy with your prediction.

Yeah, I read Luke's lips and he yelled "It's not over yet!" because of how they just gave up on that play like it was garbage time. I loved it. Let's see if he takes a page out of Phil's book and ratchets up the intensity in the 2nd half. People forget that these guys can't practice on the road like they can at home. Also love the story about Ingram showing up to Staples at 8:30pm to workout, not realizing the D-Fenders were playing. I'm loving this team, playoffs or not.

4 Things We’ve Learned in the Lakers’ first 40 Games

Quote:
We’ve learned lot about this team, from its young core to its rookie coach to its ragtag group of veterans. 40 games isn’t a lot, but this stretch has given us plenty of clues as to what this team’s future will look like. Here’s four of them.

MDA will win.. but Luke should be in the conversation if this holds true.

Luke definitely in the convo but Pringles has it pretty much wrapped up just like Embiid has ROY.

I think if we make the playoffs then Luke should definitely win it since this team won just 17 games last season.

MDA is certainly deservering of the award but his job is a bit easier as he has a MVP candidate in Harden while we have a bunch of kids.

17 wins to the playoffs in one season... Has that ever happened?
