I suppose he could be part of a larger deal.

It helps both teams IMO. DG gives them a shooter they desperately need and he can defend the perimeter too. Plus he's an ending K...

Earl gives us a legit PG who can hit open shots and keep guys in front of him. We lose a defender on the wing but I think PG defense is a more pressing need...

No

Phil might be reluctant to lose any of his players with substantial triangle experience, unless a big upgrade is involved.

The Lakers even before the capspace plans - have never given a player the maxed out MLE.

I don't think they start now.

Especially when players like Jason Terry and Mike James will be on the market in the summer

Not sure I follow what you mean.

I expect JT and Mike James to get around the full MLE from some team.

Are you saying you think we (or some team) will bait them into a $2.5M
contract or thereabouts?

I hope we're interested in those two... with ya there...

Mike James I was high on most of last summer, and JT's just a great fit.

My point was that if the Lakers were to use the Full Maxed out MLE it would be on players like that.

I don't think they are that high on Watson. Watson is someone I can see be a quality backup. Like Smush - only a better defender and somewhat weaker shooter. If Earl was on a 2-3 year MLE, I see the Lakers jump all over him.

But with Smush on board for cheap - the Lakers are probably looking for a PG that's starting calibar.

If they pay someone in excess of 30 million - I would think they would want a starting talent. They already have a very solid backup in Smush. A third stringer in Vujacic. What they need is a vet that can start and at times close out games.

Now, Terry will probably get more than the MLE and James may stay in Toronto with Bosh - BUT that's something that's still out there as an option. If I were the Lakers I rather use my money on them or atleast try to use it there before I went for Watson.

Gotcha, and agreed.

I thought from the way it was written that you were saying basically, "The Lakers have a history of not using the full MLE on one single player, and with guys like Terry and James to snag for less, why start now?"

Watson I think is an upgrade over Smush actually, but I'll also say that
I was only interested in him when I thought we might get him for the MLE
(or from some of the rumors over the summer less, for awhile he couldn't
find an offer over roughly half the MLE for 3 years or so).

Once Watson's price tag got set, and higher than it should have been, by
Denver, I've pretty much lost interest.

JT or Mike James = from me.
