Just read the Ding hit piece.
It was certainly just that: a hit piece. However, I'm at least encouraged that the vision of the FO without Jim/Mitch still seems to include Ryan West and Jesse Buss, as well as input from Luke. |

If so, it's just another example of the Lakers dysfunction and shows that power in the organization is not set in stone for anyone.
Really, if Jeanie did have total power and she wanted Magic to be calling the basketball shot, she should tell Jim that bluntly. That's not the sort of a thing a team president should hint at, hoping an underling gets the picture. |
It is a fluid situation.
People want certainty and we are not going to get it with this franchise after one meeting.
It is going to be at least a few months to years before we see where this meeting will lead to.
This whole scenario started with Magic's meeting with Jeanie at a Lakers game.
Look at us now. |

Jim deserves to have a hit piece ran on him every year until he's gone. 4 years of trash and it looks like a few more to come. I'm glad Jeanie is going to step up and hold Jim accountable to the timeline he himself implemented. Even if you give 1 more season we wouldn't come close to sniffing the WCF or being a top team in the West. |

Was just about to ask the same... is this being discussed anywhere? I don't even hear this topic on the radio etc., but it's the most interesting aspect of all right now in my opinion.
Did Magic support this? was he in favor of moving Ingram? Will we ever know? |
Probably not, but I suspect that LA, like most teams, wasn't in a hurry to give their best assets for him, and would only go there if it was cheap. |
Brandon Ingram hardly qualifies in the "best asset" category. let's get real... I mean, I see the potential, he's long, he moves well, he's the kind of guy you get KD fixations with... but Cousins? come on, pull the trigger... you won't find any deal better than that! that was ten cents on the dollar, in our favor. |
Ingram is one of LA's two best assets. And Cousins is no slam dunk, or Sacramento wouldn't be fielding ten cent on the dollar offers in the first place. |
lack of talent was not the reason they got 10 cents on the dollar for Cousins. but Sacramento is hardly a place you see winning happen quite often, and we all know why they hang division banners and call it "culture of winning"
I can go on and on with players who only needed a change in scenery to turn around a career. |
And yet no one wanted to give anything of value for him. 29 guys who to varying degrees know these players and this stuff at the highest professional level. Cousins could end up turning it around, and in that case, Demps wins. But Demps didn't give up any of his core assets for Cousins.
Imagine what folks (including yourself I dare say) would say if Mitch gave up Ingram and other assets for Cousins and he didn't turn it around... |
you know what the beauty of that deal was? we actually didn't have to gut our entire roster to get Cousins... but no, the Lakers needed to hold on to their fixations on their young core.
if Cousins continues to be what he is today, I'd say Mitch rolled the dice and had the balls to gamble for the NBA's best big man. but that's a story for another day that might have never even happen, because for all you know, Cousins could've turned it around, and the Lakers along with him.
But damn, the Lakers are scared (bleep) to do anything about the floundering state the team is in. They don't have the balls to be great again. |
Because we all know how well having the balls to be great went when we traded for Dwight Howard, right? |
it doesn't mean you quit going after the leagues best big men. |
Not necessarily no, but if you argue that going after the jackpot is the best move, you lose the right to criticize the front office if they don't hit 777. Will you argue that Jim and Mitch were doing a good job trading for Howard and Nash and hording cap space for players like Carmelo Anthony, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Kevin Durant? You can't have it both ways. |

Yes. I still remember that trade. SAS was ranting on ESPN that Dwight was coming to the Lakers next. Pre-injury Dwight/CP3/Kobe. Kobe would have would have got the chance to crush LeBron in the Finals. |
Wussy boy Dan Gilbert even mentioned this scenario in his tear-riddled email to Stern on behalf of the other owners. |

I'm not saying J & J would be GM. Just part of the brain trust the GM would answer to on the ownership side, with Magic being Jeanie's proxy. |
While not necessarily a fan of Jim or Jeanie's, over the years I've felt Jim has tried to do the right thing for the team while Jeanie's priority has been sticking it to Jim. Fair or not that his sister was making him a target, Jim hasn't met the call preferring to hideout. The way Phil was handled, given his relationship with Jeanie led to a blood vendetta and Jim's response was to pin it on his father (even if true Jim had the power to overrule or at the very least control how things went down) and keep the lines of communication silent.
Jeanie is entrenched and Jim is out of time. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

There are likely some others that I have missed, but this should be a good starting point for a list.
Troy Weaver -- OKC
Travis Schlenk -- Golden State
Mike Zarren -- Boston
Brian Pauga -- Minnesota
Arturas Karnisovas -- Denver
Gersson Rosas -- Houston |

Could folks ring in a bit more about their feelings of Magic in the front office. His coaching tenure as well as his pedestrian commentator work gives me some caution. He is 'old school' is both good ways and bad (like Byron.) Who was responsible for Byron, for that matter (not a good coach, just not a good coach.) |

Ah, yes. I forgot about that. It was going to be an epic summer. And, despite revisionist history, the Nash/Howard deals were looked upon like the perfect bounce back from the veto debris. _________________ We back. |
