http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/02/06/warriors-owner-joe-lacob-on-jerry-wests-future-beyond-this-season-were-going-to-do-something-that-works-for-him-and-works-for-us/

Quote:
Executive board member Jerry West’s most recent contract with the Warriors is scheduled to expire this July, and as of yet there have been no serious discussions with owner Joe Lacob about an extension, both men told me recently.

Multiple sources indicated to me that West might be intrigued by an offer from the Lakers, but he also feels very connected to the Warriors’ quest for championships.

West, one of the greatest executives of all-time from his Lakers and Memphis days, has been a vital part of the Warriors’ turn-around since joining the franchise in May 2011 as an executive board member and key front-office voice.

He championed the selection of Klay Thompson in 2011, for instance, was one of the strongest voices arguing against even considering trading Thompson for Kevin Love in 2014, and held a key phone conversation with Kevin Durant in the hours before Durant decided to leave the Thunder to sign with the Warriors last summer.

Time to come home, Jerry. By the time you're back, you won't have to deal with Buss Jr.

Once you hit a certain age I think you start seeing the end a little bit more and I wonder if he'd love the idea of one last hurrah to come in and build the Lakers back up to championship levels-- and do so with his son and his protege along w/Mr. Laker and Luke.

What a last stop of career that could be for him. Would be an amazing story.

The Buss Jrs own the Lakers, he will have to deal with them. And isn't West a part owner of the Warriors? That could certainly get sticky. But we see too many articles like these where West said that he is working on extending with the Warriors and nothing about coming to the Lakers. The title has little to do with the content.

That's incredibly exciting, even if he plays kind of the consulting, advisory roles with his and Magic's input on a new GM.

That's exciting! Please, Lakers, try to look something like less of a train wreck in the front office for the next couple months!

I thought he's a consultant?
Regardless, he's set them up for the next 10 years. Nothing left to do over there but watch it play out.

If his interest lies in the process of building and shaping culture, rosters, and franchises, then LA would be an amazing story to end his career.

With Curry and Durant both being FAs after this season there is a lot GS has to figure out. I would love to get Jerry here, I wonder if he is the type of dad that wouldn't want to overshadow his son?

Magic said his interview that one thing Dr. Buss did was surround himself with the best basketball minds. He seems smart enough to know Jerry is GOAT of team building and wouldn't feel threatened by that.

Magic seems to be setting up as Mr. Laker, both on the court and off the court. His main interest may align with the business side and be angling for eventual partial ownership in the team. Maybe he'd want Jerry to come in and be the basketball ops side visionary with Luke, Mitch, Ryan and of course some of his own involvement?

Question: wasn't there some rift between Jerry and the Buss family a while back that prompted him to leave? Would Jim Buss be an impediment to Jerry coming back? I recall this having to do with Phil. Can't remember.

Hope it happens. Phil is gone and I don't think West had any issues with Jim. His son works for him.

Yup, it had to do with Phil. West was friends with Jerry Krause and had heard many stories about Phil's mind games so wasn't keen on bringing him to the Lakers. Dr.Buss made that call.

I thought the West talk was just hot air or clickbait. But I keep hearing about it all year. We should hope GSW wins the title this season!
