Nah. Larry Coon explained it pretty well, iirc, on 710am: basically, amnesty was included in previous CBAs because there was a radical change in how tax was implemented and calculated, which would unfairly punish teams who signed players to contracts under the old terms. Since there were basically no changes in how tax will be calculated and assessed in the new CBA, there was no reason to include an amnesty.

That makes more sense. The amnesty is designed to protect teams against an unexpected change in the system; it isn't there to rescue teams from bad decisions.

If we stretched Deng we'd essentially save ~11m per year for next 3 years off our cap (but would also carry 7m on additional years)

With MOZGOV it'd be ~10m per year

So if in Summer 2018 or 2019, we need ~21 million we could stretch both players

Yeah. If that was the difference b/w getting someone like PG13, Lakers would do it and eat the costs going forward (not sure about the calculations but assuming they are on point).

But guys! 4 years 136 million for veteran leadership! Continuity!

I wonder what other excuses the front office apologists will come up with to spin this, or will they just continue to talk down to others criticizing these horrible deals.

Let's see you do better, Mr. Armchair GM.

Keep the scouting department in tact & it wouldn't take much.

I don't need to be an Armchair GM to call a spade a spade.

What is more concerning is the alleged belief that there would be an amnesty in this new CBA, and the possibility a signing or two may have been built on that foundation.

Uhhmmm, that's pretty easy. Don't spend a ridiculous amount of money on an old, injured center and an old player who had a career resurrection playing at a position you don't plan on playing him at (remember, Deng was really good playing PF for the Heat). Pretty much everyone who was objective called those problems the moment the signings were announced. Mozgov was just plain weird and there was no way they were going to play Deng over Randle at PF.

We're talking about sports management, not gardening here.

I'm hoping that's not true...

Year 1 and the deals are already a disaster, and we still have 3 years left
