If I remember correctly, his estate was going to use the CTE findings to build a case to recover his wages from the Patriots. |

You can’t diagnose CTE without inspecting the brain. Good dodge by the family to try to blame something other than Hernandez being a common thug.
Edit: my mistake, I forgot he had committed suicide. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Well he does have CTE I dont need to study his brain to know that.
Sucks but it doesnt matter the guy has to be locked up. It would be nice if prisons were used to focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment though |

They inspected his brain at Boston University, and they concluded he had CTE.
You can even see the thin slices of his brain in the article that I read in the NYT. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

The game of football needs to be reformed in order to protect its players.
The biggest problem is the size and speed of the modern player playing within current rules virtually guarantees the risk of concussion. Perhaps some common sense changes to the rules and equipment are in order.
A couple thoughts:
Hard shell helmets do a great job of protecting the head of the person wearing it. Unfortunately, it is also a battering ram, often directed at the head of an opponent. A softer exterior, achieved by adding a layer of foam or replacing the hard shell with softer protection similar to those used in rugby or water polo would go a long way towards reducing concussions.
Shoulder pads protect the shoulders so well that the player wearing them is empowered to launch themselves shoulder first into an opponent. Perhaps making the pads smaller or softer and adopting rules requiring tackling (wrapping up) rather than just hitting would deter some of the brutal hits that contribute to concussions. |

Proper coaching would help too. Pete Carroll looked ast rugby players who tackle without helmets and realized that shoulder tackling could reduce head injuries. The NFL created USA Football to help reach out to young players with their Heads Up program. Our league requires that all coaches be certified through USA. This year they embraced shoulder tackling and that is what we teach to our players. Of course some coaches ignore it, and we try to identify them for either further training or dismissal. It’s a great tool but like any tool, it needs to be used. Parents who don’t understand the sport and hold their young kids out are missing the point. Kids don’t get concussions at 8 or 10, they just can’t develop the force to injure each other. I have coached for 15 years and had a player suffer a concussion this year, the first for me. Only it was in a car crash, not football. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Quote: | C.J. Anderson: Fastest I ran all game vs. Cowboys was to meet Jason Witten
Most NFL players were NFL fans growing up, which means young players are often playing with and against their childhood idols. In the case of Broncos running back C.J. Anderson, meeting a childhood idol was the biggest thrill of Sunday’s game.
Anderson, whose Broncos beat the Cowboys on Sunday, couldn’t wait to meet Dallas tight end Jason Witten, who’s been in the NFL since Anderson was 12 years old.
“After the game, I saw him in the tunnel, and I literally did sprint, that was the fastest I ran the whole game, just to shake his hand and tell him how much I appreciate him, and thank him for being such a great role model,” Anderson told NFL Media.
Anderson played like a grown man, carrying 25 times for 118 yards against the Cowboys. But once the game was over, he was like a kid mingling among his football heroes. |

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/09/23/frank-gore-says-he-has-no-regrets-about-signing-with-the-colts/
Quote: | Frank Gore says he has no regrets about signing with the Colts
After spending 12 seasons in San Francisco, Frank Gore signed with the Colts in 2015 thinking he could earn a Super Bowl ring. It hasn’t worked out that way.
The Colts missed the playoffs in each of Gore’s first two seasons in Indianapolis, and this year they look like perhaps the worst team in the NFL. Yet Gore says he has no regrets, other than maybe wishing Andrew Luck had stayed healthy.
“If I had to do it again, I still would make the same decision,” Gore told the Indianapolis Star. “Things just didn’t go our way the last two years, starting with our leader. He got hurt. I’ve played with, what, five quarterbacks?”
With 13,153 career yards, Gore is the NFL’s active rushing leader, and if he stays healthy he should be in the Top 5 all time by the end of the season. Unfortunately, he’ll also likely be out of the playoffs at the end of the season. Again. |

Quote: | Jim Caldwell signed multi-year contract extension with Lions
Jim Caldwell is no longer in the final year of his contract.
Caldwell and the Lions have signed a new deal that will keep Caldwell in Detroit for multiple years, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. According to the report, Caldwell actually signed the deal months ago, but neither he nor the Lions felt the need to announce it publicly. Caldwell was asked about his contract last week and refused to address it.
The Lions have made the playoffs in two of Caldwell’s first three seasons and are off to a 2-0 start this year, so it’s hard to argue that Caldwell doesn’t deserve it. That’s especially true considering how long the Lions had been at or near the bottom of the NFL before Caldwell arrived.
Lions General Manager Bob Quinn inherited both Caldwell and quarterback Matthew Stafford. Now he has locked both of them up with new deals, indicating that Quinn thinks he already has the two most important pieces of the puzzle in place. |

I didn't like that call, he wasn't on the field. He was overly demonstrative though. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Watching N E vs Hou. Houston up 30 28. Watson a little erratic. Missed two easy throws. 2 TD's 1 INT _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
