Should Bitcoin/CryptoCurrency Billionaires be expected/required to invest in renewable energy R&D?

Their digital thirst uses an insane amount of Natural Resources. After earning a certain amount they are taxed for the energy consumption?

To what end.. Curious where this will lead us.. money is so valuable we will burn the whole earth for it? Treasure Island money?
