Woj reported it, so I'm guessing it's official.
No one knows. |

I hope Magic is talking to Ryan West every step of the way, and Pelinka every fifteen minutes on a burner phone _________________ Austin Reaves

Figures I'm gone all day and major stuff goes down.
Not sure what to think of someone with no experience in charge of all this if it works out its great. If it doesn't I can't imagine how hard it would be to fire Magic. |

I had always been patient with Mitch and Jim despite their nonsense. Despite some some recent disappointments, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt due to past success. Sadly, they were fired too late.
In my mind, they signed their death warrant with the Deng and Mozgov signings. Those moves were an absolute joke/embarrassment and remain completely unforgivable. Those signings alone are grounds for immediate termination. They put their own ego's and interests above what was best for the franchise and have severely hampered our flexibility going forward
I believe the move to Magic stops the bleeding, but those mistakes last summer cannot be undone. |

What is nice is that Magic, nor whoever becomes our new GM, has any attachment to Mozgov or Deng. Unlike possibly Jim and Mitch, they will feel no obligation to try to give those two minutes to justify their contracts. From here on out, it will be all about development and cultivating assets. I wouldn't be surprised to see a dramatic drop in Deng's and Mozgov's minutes from here on out. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

What happened to so many people saying that Jeanie couldn't fire Jim, because she needed family votes? |

Lee Jenkins kinda wrote a scathing quick article about the Magic hire. _________________ Austin Reaves

Clearly she got the votes. I was starting to get that idea as more and more articles kept quoting Jesse and Joey Buss as being promising talents in the Lakers' org. And it sounds like they're going to get some kind of promotions or larger roles. _________________ Austin Reaves

That's my speculation though. I think she does have the final power to fire someone. So if she didn't get votes, she could do the more publicly vicious beheading... _________________ Austin Reaves

The title is great, problem is now Magic has to do the boring stuff like scouting players at colleges, summer leagues, etc. Will he have the patience to do it? Its one thing to go on the air and tell the current GM is horrible at their job its another to actually perform at a level to exceed them. |

There was a quote in another thread from Romona that said "Jim Buss had retained a lawyer but provisions governing the family trust very clearly gave Jeanie Buss the authority to make these moves."
After repeating that, I'd also guess that most of the rest of the kids have been behind this for years and Jeanie actually did have support for it - this has been a clusterf**k for 4-5 years now, and the rest of the kids have to be getting tired of it. _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Wasn't Mitch basically the cap guy? It is really scary to think Magic is making these decisions alone. He also seems to have a fixation on Clarkson being some super defender. He may miss out on deals by saying thinks like Clarkson is untouchable. Pelinka get in here quickly. Please give this man some support. |

He's already blown his first trade by getting a lower first round pick than possible, and getting stuck with Brewer. Opposing GMs are salivating at the prospect of trading with Magic. |

The whole franchise is fueled on nepotism, narcissism, and sibling rivalry. That doesn't change with Jim deposed. |

Yes, they did not even interview qualified people for the Head of Basketball Operations or GM. They just gave those away according the the whims of a sabotaging owner. |
