I’m really excited about the potential of the young guys. Rank them in terms of where they are today.

Given that he was considered one of the top prospects coming out of college, Monk has been a borderline bust. The fact that he slipped to #11 in the draft tells me that the scouts saw something they didn't like. I haven't followed him much with the Hornets, but I've seen suggestions that he is not a high IQ player. He showed some flashes, but he also had the drug suspension (cocaine). He couldn't get off the bench for the Hornets -- he started one game in four years. He was shooting the three well last year before he got hurt, but he has been a below average three point shooter over the course of his career. The Hornets did not give him a QO. Summing it up, I suppose you can still say that Monk has upside potential. Next season is make or break for Monk. If he keeps floundering, his next stop could be Europe. Maybe he'll finally deliver on some of his potential, but this roster does not strike me as a nuturing environment for an underachieving player.

I really don't know what to make of THT. Yes, he's young. Yes, he shows flashes. But he really hasn't shown that he can play at an NBA level on a consistent basis. I defer to the judgment of the coaching staff that he can develop into a quality player. I just wish it would actually start happening. Now that he's getting paid big money, and now that the front office appears to have picked him over Caruso, he is going to be under a lot more scrutiny.

Kendrick Nunn is not a young player. He just turned 26. His career got off to a rocky start. He spent three years at Illinois, got kicked off the team due to his DV conviction, transferred to Oakland, had to sit out a year, and then didn't get drafted. The Warriors cut him at the G League level, but then he bounced back with the Heat. I find it a little weird that the Heat dropped him for nothing less than a year after he finished as runner up in the RoY voting. The rumor is that they didn't see much upside in him, but on paper he has been playing at a solid NBA level. You'd think that he has enough value to avoid being dropped for nothing. So I'm pleased that we got him for the taxpayer MLE, but I'm curious whether he has some off the court issues that are not immediately apparent. I'll say it again: The Heat cut him loose less than a year after he finished as runner up in the RoY voting. What the heck?

As current contributors to a contender:
Nunn
Monk (more consistent)
THT

By potential:
Monk
THT
Nunn

THT

(Big Gap)

Nunn
Monk

THT is the only one in that group that has a chance to be a high level all star.

Monk has the highest upside but who knows if he reaches it.

Sometimes he can look like Devin Booker (not saying he’s Booker, just that he has flashes).

THT - you can’t teach his wingspan or ability to handle the ball. Just need to see if he can become a solid 3PT shooter to go along with his elite takes to the rim.

THT will obviously get run time... probably be playing 20-25mpg

Nunn something similar as he looks to be the primary backup PG.

Monk to me is the wild card, not sure if he will get consistent playing time w/Ellington and Bazemore there.

Most definitely but THT bbiq leave a lot to be desired of. Also kind of tunnel vision. I don’t see that good feel for the game but he is still young so time is on his side. He definitely need more experience but his progress is definitely encouraging. Also our FO can see that before anyone else and their faith like rewarding him validates convictions than doubts.

Completely disagree. What makes him a great prospect is his bbiq. You don’t have multiple double digit assist games at his age without pretty elite bbiq and vision.

Eh double digit assist games were a bit deceiving. My eye test sees more of a telegraphic type of passing, like the Marbury style. The vision of seeing plays before anyone else, those what I call elite vision.

today or in the future (potential)?

Right now, I think Nunn is the most proven consistent contributor to winning basketball....but he may have the lowest ceiling of the 3. I am still a big THT believer, and think he has the most potential.

Highest upside is Monk. He also is the one that is the most of a coin flip to get there. But Russ being his vet is probably the BEST teacher he could have for his style of play.

Nunn is likely close to his ceiling but there's always time, he has a solid future and imo at his ceiling is a starting PG in the league.

THT has the longest way to his ceiling, and his ceiling is pretty high too depending. If he comes in this year with a three point shot he'll already be halfway there.

Harry Giles

A writer for a major pub. suggested Giles for the Lakers about a month ago. I forgot which one, but if he's healthy we should do our due diligence. He's got skills.
