Ryan West and Rob Pelinka have strong relationship and may be team for The Lakers Future

Lakers assistant general manager Ryan West has a strong relationship and history with Pelinka, and will likely be considered a significant part of the new front-office regime, league sources said.

In taking the Lakers’ job – which follows the Warriors’ blueprint on ex-agent Myers – Pelinka is agreeing to divest from his Landmark Sports representation business. Pelinka’s client list includes Houston Rockets All-Star guard James Harden, Houston’s Eric Gordon and Golden State’s Andre Iguodala.

Now that I think about it, hiring an Agent as your GM is a no brainer. The job share the same skillset.

I love this hire.

Warrior's GM is also a former agent. Not saying it'll yield the same success, but I applaud them for thinking outside the box.

Just add the JWest equivalent. Can't discount Lakers are trying to implement the Warriors blueprint.

Can't complain about that.

My cautious optimism is growing. I was a wreck this morning, but I haven't heard anything truly discouraging since it happened..

A question for Laker fans.

Ryan West is highly praised by Laker fans not only on here, but every form of social media. The guy has kind of turned into a golden child.

He was part of the scouting department. Who's to say he wasn't big fans of the Mozgov and Deng who were basically the nail in the coffin for Mitch. Who's to say he didn't give Mitch a glowing recommendation like he did for Dlo and Nance?

Or does he only scout for the draft?

The quicker Magic got pushed out of the interim GM chair, the better. Pelinka's hiring tided that over.

Pelinka as GM should assuage some concerns on Magic's competence as president of operations. Magic might very well be captain obvious on twitter, but he has enough business savvy to surround himself with the qualified, proper personnel. In this particular case, it's what's on the inside that counts. I look forward to seeing what Magic, Pelinka, Ryan, Joey, Jesse accomplish. Also worth noting that Joey Buss has done a tremendous job with the d-fenders. Transformed them into contenders in 1-2 seasons. Hopefully they will use the d-league as a legitimate means to acquire talent.

of the players actually giving the Lakers the time of day, Mozgov and Deng were the best choices.

Imagine if we had signed Festus Ezeli/Mahimi16M and Evan Turner17M instead.

Jerry West will not be part of the Lakers' revamped management structure, according to league sources.

That was predictable. He is more invested in GS right now.

Screw Magic and Jeanie. We fired a real GM for an agent? What the heck? I dont feel safe at all with Magic. Why dont we just promote our own West?

Gotta love the overreaction police on here who jumped the gun and assumed that Magic was just gonna trade away all the young players and that Ryan West is as good as gone....smh. The exact opposite of both of those things are true. Based on what Ramona said on SC an hour ago, sounds like the timing of all of this stems from Jim and Mitch coming close to trading the young players away for Butler (she didn't specifically say it was Butler, but really, who else would it have been?). Sounds like Magic and Jeanie swooped in and saved the day on that one.

Also, Pelinka and Ryan West have a very strong relationship per reports, so RW is probably more likely to stick around, if anything. It sounds like the Lakers are finally adopting the SA/GS model in the FO and are establishing more of a committee now, which is the perfect way to approach it. I doubt Luke is happy about all of these changes because he probably wasn't consulted, but it's safe to say that he'll have a bigger voice in personnel now that the Lakers have officially become modern in their FO. Me likey. Me likey a lot. #LEGGO

Omg, all the whiniest Lakers fans come out today. "I hate Magic", "Terrible move" "franchise is in the toilet now" blah blah blah.
It's actually quite the opposite, it's a thrilling move for the organization and one that leaves many, like myself, intrigued.

And for those who think Pelinka is not a "real GM", be knows more than most GMs and knows the players certainly more than most.

In addition, the Lou move was good too. They got a first rounder which is what they wanted, yet the whiners are complain about that too.

Let's let this ride out but I, speak for many, who welcome the change.

It was needed.....

Magic's should do well with his people skills in recruiting a big name free agent or two to supplement the young talent. I'd be concerned if he was solely making the decisions about who we draft though.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
The Bucks just acquired the next Jason Kidd in Michael Carter-Williams.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
I love Okafor because he's won a state championship in HS, NCAA Title at Duke and he can bring that championship pedigree to the Lakers.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
For all of you out there questioning Jimmer Fredette of BYU, he is the real deal.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
Awesome trade for the Thunder. Dion Waiters can catch and shoot and also create his own shot, just what the Thunder need.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
If Brandon Knight were to come out, I would take him number 1 in the draft.

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
I'm impressed w/ the Chicago Bulls starting Rondo, Butler, Wade & MCW off the bench they have the 3rd best group of guards in the league...

Earvin Magic Johnson ✔ @MagicJohnson
The only way San Antonio or Miami don't win the championship is if neither team makes the finals.

And no more waiting until free agency to start to recruit/get a feel for players.
