I hope they get that it was more than about vision...Dr. Buss earned owners, agents and players respect because of the way he treated those people, and they learned to trust him and his word, even if they wished it was different. |

I cannot deny one thing... Magic absolutely brings legitimacy that this team has been missing for the past few years. He talks a big game, but I think people around the NBA will respect it. |

This is the most depressed I've been as a Lakers fan in my life. |
Let's chill and see what happens though. Magic is hiring a GM, and we know for a fact we have Ryan West and Luke in personnel conversations right now. |
I've stayed calm for years. I've supported the youth movement and preached pavement. I understand it was Mitch and Jims time to go. But I can't keep quiet when you fire your GM 2 days before the trade deadline. That makes no sense. And Magic(like all of the showtime guys) doesn't seem very fond of our best young prospect. It's time to hit the panic button. |
Just making a guess here, but I'd suspect they decided to fire Jim and Mitch before the trade deadline to prevent Jim/Mitch from making a really stupid trade in desperation to keep their jobs. Something stupid like trading 3 young guys and Lou Will for Melo (or equivalent) |
The biggest knock on Mitch is his reluctance to make moves, not what you're claiming. Good guess, but highly unlikely. |
There is Mitch...and then there's Jim, who had the reins..
and, yeah..from all reports across the last 4-5 years, Jim might have attempted something like that.
desperate people do desperate things
I'm not saying they absolutely would have - but I suspect there was some concern that they might have done something stupid and took the keys to the car away before they could _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Please stop. Do you honestly think that is the way it works? Mitch sat by the phone 24/7 waiting for it to ring?
We've already hit rock bottom as a franchise. Jimbo was on record as saying any 10 fans in a bar could pick talent as well as NBA scouts could. Mitch couldn't make a decision about deals until Jimbo took a poll of what was left of their staff. It was a rudderless ship. Thank GOD Jeanie decided to take over before Jimbo could pull some real disastrous move at the deadline.
Maybe Magic does not have experience as a basketball executive. It's still better than Jimbo's experience going to Jockie school, or trying to make it as a race horse owner/trainer, or his "basketball experience" which led him to hire his old bartending friend, Chaz, as a "scout" back in 2011 while firing REAL long-time scouts.
You need to chill and stop all this negative just for the sake of being negative commentary.

More
Magic is excited about the young talent already on the roster. Wants to really focus on developing a “winning culture.” Luke is a key there. |
Hope this isnt just lip service |

I'm just glad I won't ever have to hear about Mitch's dumb North Carolina nut huggin jokes when players from Duke, UK or other college rivals are drafted or signed by the Lakers. |

You could do the same. What you put forward for arguments are two of the biggest falsehoods to stick in low-information flame posts in spite of repeatedly being shot down. There are plenty of real criticisms I can respect, but these specific criticisms are garbage.
Quote: | What I said, the point I was trying to make, was that it is so scrutinized, the top 10 picks, the top 15, there are services over and over and if you’re a basketball fan you read these services. So, my point was, you can grab 10 guys and say, ‘Who are the top 10 picks?’ and they’ll have that information. Where it becomes incredible, and that’s where our scouts are incredible, is when we pick 29th, 30th, 28th. That’s where scouting comes in to play because really (the top 10) is set, it’s (the bottom 10) where you really have to know what you’re doing. |

And guess what? That is one area where the Lakers did excel, because they emphasized scouting as Jim stated. Nance. Clarkson at 46. Zubac. Marc Gasol for that matter. Now that Jim's merely a co-owner maybe people can stop quoting some falsehood that came from a hack reporter cutting off a quote to change the meaning 20 years ago. |
