Why did they fire John Black, too?

New messaging philosophy I guess. Lakers were well known for being tight lipped. Who knows how things will be going forward.

According to a source of mine, John Black and Kobe Bryant didn't speak for "nearly a decade" then added "I feel bad for John but I'm sure they took care of him." I've heard some rumblings that "he's (bleep) who keeps the press away."

Edit: Should add the last part was from someone else, but that's the consensus of his reputation from a few people.

Who cares? how does John Black affect anything on the court? That's really all that matters to me.

Why didn't Kobe have him fired, then? Or does this set up Pelinka's hiring? If Kobe had an issue with Black, then surely so did Pelinka.

This is what I was told: "Magic had nothing to do with it. John got caught between Jeanie and Jim and, being on the basketball side, had to be Jim's guy."

I think we all know how things will go. The Lakers lost a genuine PR guy who tried to keep the rumor mill in check and now we have two people who just love to Tweet away in social media.

OK - that makes sense.

How does John Black being fired affect the team? Do you really care about who the team's PR guy is?

Not in the social media era. You've got to establish relationships and help grow the brand and business.

What an interesting future we have. Will we be getting trade rumors straight from Magic's Twitter account?

Probably about changing the culture. And its possible that Black wasn't a fan of the move to fire Mitch.

Like I said in the other thread, we better see Kevin Ding calling them out for this like he always did with the Rudy Garciduenas firing. Of course he won't because he's Jeanie's mercenary.

Nothing to do with the court dude. Logically, this has to do with communications. Maybe part of the free agent game is how savvy you can work before 9pm. Mitch was the only one who didn't communicate, maybe Black has something to do with that. I don't know.

Yes. People need to know about that obscure NBA team in Los Angeles called the Lakers. If they hire the right PR person, the team might end up being worth somewhere in the high 9 figures.

They probably were cleaning house so Jeannie can rebuild with all her people. Whenever there's a shakeup like this, it's pretty common to get rid of all the people that were too close to the guy that got ousted. That way the new leadership start with a clean slate
