I guess I can be the first not to treat it as a joke. He may have been in over his head at the end, but Mitch stood up for him beyond when he had much reason to do so. I think that counts for something, when we still have no idea how much credit to assign to whom during the good years.

Jim Buss will never be held in regard by most Lakers fans. And rightfully so.

No offense to Jim, but I was never a fan. Seemed like a lone wolf out there, never able to build support, always had detractors. He may not have been as horrible as everyone thought, but he had little ability to communicate and build support. His early mistakes haunted him and followed the Lakers his whole time at the helm.
Change was absolutely needed. _________________ Never argue with stupid people! They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience!! - Twain
Jim Buss had no business ever being in the role he was in. Nothing about his character or life experience suggested that he might succeed as President of Basketball Operations. And sure enough, he failed. He got the job purely out of nepotism. And now thankfully, he is out, and can return to what he is good at: being a playboy. _________________ Jerry Buss made the Lakers into the crown jewel of the NBA.

Dr. Jerry Buss was the biggest playboy ever. It doesn't mean anything.

Bill Plaschke basically say the same thing during his interview on the radio. He said that he was not qualified for this job
