Of course, we also have 3 lottery picks from well BEFORE that time (Brewer 2007, Deng 2004, Lopez 2008), but still… |
And even of those last three, at least two of them are really good players: Lopez, obviously. And Brewer. I forget how good he still is. Those Ennis highlights included some good Brewer play. And Deng? Maybe he surprises. |

11.6 PPG
1.3 REB
3.4 AST
1.2 STL
1.4 TOV
26.5 MPG
46.3% From the Field
42.5% From Three

I think a lot of us were surprised at his 3pt shooting.
Think it'll hold true this year? |

Isn't Ennis supposed to be Ball's backup? It will be interesting to see how much time Ennis is on the court with Ball. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

Essentially he is, but you never know we might end up bringing in Farmar before training camp starts, we do need some veteran stability at the PG position. |

My point is that I don't think Ennis and Ball will spend a lot of time on the court together--so Ennis may not be getting a lot of open looks from Ball. Usually, I expect Ennis to be coming on when Ball is coming off--although, I am sure there will be exceptions. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

Yeah, that's why you would also need a vet at the PG spot. |

Because we were in full on tank mode and a lot of people stopped watching by that point in the season. He was solid. |
he really was.. cant believe we were the only team interested. Nice signing. |
I read that he really liked being a Laker and the fact that the team gave him a chance was a big factor in him returning, im pretty darn positive that he had suitors but players do apppreciate it when there team gives them a chance to shine. and also it seems like the Lakers also loved him.
This is why hopefully FAs will look at how we support our players even though there are better options. FAs always look at the loyalty factor. |
Yup, he expressed after the season ended how much he wanted to return... |

No doubt he produced to end the season -- but it's still very much in doubt if he's actually any good though. Between garbage opponent quality (benches of teams that aren't competing) and uncharacteristically hot shooting (most likely), it's hard to really forecast how good (or bad) he'll be. |

As it turns out, this year will be all about growing our youngsters, which I'm fine with. No one's challenging the big dogs this year anyway. Might as well make good use of the time while we wait. _________________ Not a legend |

Good move by FO. Ennis is not maybe some great athlete, great shooter or passer but he is smart player, with average all round game and for backup PG is Luke's system more that enough. Ball will play mayor minutes anyway. For Ennis it will be between 15-18 min which is quite enough for him. GOOD MOVE |

Small but effective signing. Thought Ennis had solid contribution last year (even if against "lesser" competition as some keep reminding us). Actually think he and Clarkson (his presumed running mate at the moment) could be effective from the bench.
He has a nice overall game. Plays hard, great asst/to ratio and is the backup. Likely playing less then 20mpg. At 22 yrs old he still can continue to grow in the system. Going to be interesting to see if his 3pt shooting can become his norm or if last year was an anomaly.
By locking him in it also takes away some of the pressure of signing a PG. Gives the FO some flexibility to still sign another guard if one shakes from the trees and looks like a good fit. |

Chiming in to agree with what people are saying here. I really like this decision. I was happy with how Tyler Ennis handled the backup PG duties last year. He's got as low cost and low risk of a contract as can be for a decent, competent PG.
One of the best aspects of signing Ennis is that he appears to be very happy with his role coming off the bench in support of the team when Ball needs a breather. |

Haven't you heard? Ball is going to play 48+ minutes per game, a la Wilt. That is how he will be giving open looks to all our first, second, AND third string players!! |

Not trying to discredit his numbers, just curious, how many games do these stats apply to? This was towards the end of the year when most teams weren't even trying really hard to win games, but he was legit playing better all the same.
Not snubbing my nose at the signing at all tbh and he had a good 3P% all year. |
