They gave the presenters the wrong envelope....It was the envelope for best actress, so the presenters on stage had to deduce since the winner was Emma Stone, the best picture was La-La-Land. My guess is somebody backstage either gave the same envelope before best picture to Warren Beatty or somebody printed the same winner on the envelope twice.....Either way you knew there was a big time screw up since while the directors were thanking people onstage, you could see security behind them scrambling and holding a different envelope.

I realized immediately that Warren Beatty was acting strange. I remember thinking, "Either he's having a stroke, or he can't read what the envelope says." ..Turns out he knew there was something wrong, but also saw La La Land inside the envelope since Stone was in that movie, and said La La Land.
This will be talked about FOREVER. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid!

What happened? somethhing NSFW?
Not NSFW. They announced Lala Land as the winner of Best Picture. Three separate people gave their acceptance speeches. It was then revealed that Moonlight actually won and they had to hand over their awards. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
I think someone did it intentionally/maliciously. Also, they just interviewed Emma Stone, and she said she had her best actress card with her the entire time.

Do you guys think they secretly know ahead of time who the winner is? I've always wondered that.

They probably have backup envelopes. He could have received the backup of Emma's envelope by mistake. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid!

Beatty was handed the wrong envelope. You can see the envelope in his hands says "Actress in a Leading Role" and after Dunaway announced La La Land you can hear Beatty say "it says Emma Stone". Major screwup but not Warren's fault.
Also the best movie won. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Yeah -- just saw a picture of of the envelope Beatty had when he was originally announcing it. The outside said "Best Actress in a Leading Role". So there were multiple cards and he was given the wrong one.

Not his fault, but he could have said "this is the wrong envelope." Wouldn't be the end of the world. He then handed it to Dunaway, so he wouldn't say it. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid!

Isn't it funny how Warren gave both the audience and the other presenter an odd look, and she just assumed she was messing around and read it like nothing was wrong? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
I can just hear orange face-small hands tomorrow..."Fake Oscars!"
Steve Harvey is dancing around his living room shouting "I'm number two!"
I didn't watch but this whole thing seems.. contrived.
I get this happening in one major event like with Steve Harvey and the pageant but for an awards show like this?
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this was done as a PR stunt.
Doubt it....its the Oscars which is basically the Super Bowl of Hollywood Award shows...because of its history going back to the dawn of Hollywood films, it is basically the premier award show if you want to be remembered for your works. All the other awards like People's Choice, Golden Globes, BAFTA's their like winning the NCAA championship compared to the Oscars which is like winning the NBA championship. If we know anything about the Academy is that they stick to traditions so I doubt they would do something like this intentionally.....the look of the people on stage tells me it was a genuine screw up.

They can't do that. If they did, they would have to release the winners to the people who program the teleprompter ahead of time. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

No, that would have been "Hell or High-water".
But as long as Lala Land didn't win, I'm happy. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Yeah. When I first saw his confusing look, I was like come on old man, just read the card, there's nothing to it! Haha.
Hoping that ...

Maybe he deliberately threw her under the bus by making her read it so he wouldn't have to. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Time will tell but I wouldn't count on it. I think the majority of the other nominated films will hold up better over time. But Hollywood gets to call themselves heroes for the choice and that is all that matters.
