Stu really got on my last nerves last night first with INSISTING the ball came off Ingram's shoulder and then later when he was laughing and tearing down the comment that we have a better record than the Cavs now (which we do and I was glad it was mentioned)!! His reaction was a direct diss against the Lakers team....like it was such an absurd comparison!!
He's bothered me for years with his constant "correcting and/or disagreeing" and also always being so anxious to get the game over with so he can leave.
Stu Lantz tries to go from the book of Chick Hearn as in "not being a homer."
But instead of doing it with the realism 'thats how it is' wit that Chick had, he instead gets it wrong by coming off as an undercover hater of everything to do with the Lakers and like a condescending jerk to his co-announcer.
ya
100% agree.
I think older listeners have such a deep bias that they simply cannot "hear" it at this point. (And I've been listening to Stu for over 15 years and I'm so tired of his condescending tone. Also, he always sounds like he wants to go home by the end of long games).
Edit: I just remembered one of the most annoying things Stu does. Almost every time a Laker does a hard, swatting block, he asks why the player simply didn't just "catch" the ball. Really? It's so infuriating
Can't agree more. It was at its peak in the Dwight year when he would be furious whenever Dwight sent a shot into the crowd, saying he should have just caught it or altered it instead. I'll admit, there were a couple blocked shots that he could have easily caught but made a show of sending them into the front row instead.
What Stu failed to realize was that the fear of getting embarrassed by Dwight was altering tons of shots. Once he went to the bench, it was a layup line.
I thought the headline implied there are a few things Stu says that bothers the OP. But it seems like a list of everything Stu has ever said. Headline should be I HATE STU LANTZ! LOL!
Stu should have been gone, but the Lakers are loyal to their employees (Minus that Jim Buss disaster when he fired everyone associated with Phil). He's awful to listen to, but we're stuck with him.

Not a fan of Stu but he is very knowledgable about the game. He's not the most entertaining guy but he knows basketball and isn't a homer.
I learn nothing from his insight. Of course, I learn nothing from Hubie Brown anymore either. I think a lot of these guys reach a point where the game passes them by and they just regurgitate the same lines over and over again.
I'm sure somebody already mentioned this at the start of this thread, but Stu making these imaginary dialogues between players is soooo (bleep) annoying.
Almost as annoying as that Clipper broadcaster who screams "bingo" with every 3-pt make. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

Since I hate homer announcers, I find Stu's non-homer approach refreshing. Sorry it upsets some of the millennial snowflakes out there (I kid, I kid). _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

he's beyond arrogant and sounds salty. at least 3-4 times a game i hear him say about the commentator (whomever it is), "no that's not it" or "forget the pass, what about that finish", etc.
people give him a pass because he used to work with chick (back then, his comments were under control) and because he's been our color guy for so long.
it's like having a 30 year old employee at your company who tells everyone what to do. yeah, stu is "that guy".
and yes, Stu is not a homer. i completely agree with that. but that doesn't automatically make him a good color guy. _________________ Dominating every day.
I like Stu but the quick-trigger contrarianism with anything Billy Mac says can be a bit much.
"The Lakers have a better record than the Cavs!"
"And? So? What's that mean? So? Talk to me in April."
It's just a statistical tidbit, Stu. A fun, early season oddity. No need to drag Mac through the ringer.
I noticed that one, heh. He himself used to get moody when Chick would do it to him. Saw an old post of mine in this thread where I brought up a moment where he used the word "apex" to describe the top point of a ref's jumpball toss and Chick said, "Apex!....oh, hot DOG..." Stu got all silent for 3 full back and forths by both teams, providing nothing to Chick's gameplay. At a certain point, Chick noticed it and shouted, "Just kiddin, we love ya, STUUU!" I wish I remember what game that was in cuz I'd put it up, but I know it cracked me up. I think Stuart is just giving back to the dudes with lesser tenure what he got from Chick for years.
Here was another that made me lolz when I came upon it (literal lol). Chick was tough in tense moments, man.
Was mostly good, tho. Here's a funny moment I saved to memory. Chick called it rite. Aguirre treating that ball like it was radioactive unless he was ready to score it.
I've been watching Laker games on a volume of around 7 or 8 (1 being the lowest) for a while now. Just enough volume in case I need to know about something I didn't actually see happen myself.
We have the best people on the radio already. Ireland & Thompson are great. They make you feel like you're actually at the game. All we need to do is force Stu & Billy to retire and replace them with those guys. It would be night and day. Ireland & Worthy did a great job too. Just watch replays of Russell's Summer League "Ice" game vs the Sixers. Worthy called "Ice" moments before it even happened.
Ireland is the most annoying person ever
I can understand if you dislike his radio show, but as an announcer he's pretty good in my opinion.
I don't mind him much, I like how he tells it how it is. However, he does get annoying sometimes as he can sound super condescending during some stretches
Man' things have changed. Back in the day, the only thing Stu was known for was creating some faux dialogue for highlight plays as KHJ/KCAL went to commercial on the... Lakers...Basketball...Network. And also hosting Lakersline on radio after the game.
I watched the game last night and all I have to say is that once you've been hearing someone for the last 30 years (since 1987), you'll more or less tune them out.

Love Stu. Rarely get to watch the Lakers version of the broadcast as league pass always shows the oppositions broadcast, even on the Lakers league pass station, unless it is a sunday home game that is on the NBA TV channel.
In other words, very rarely do they show the Lakers broadcast. It is SO much better to listen to the Lakers broadcast than always having to listen to the oppositions broadcast... although Billy Mac sucks. Stu definitely does not suck.
league pass has an option for home/away broadcast. Are you sure you're doing it right?
Yes, of course I know that. Have had League Pass for as long as it's been around. Back when Time Warner took over, on my Dishnet, ALL the Lakers broadcasts, of course including the ones on the Lakers channel and also the oppositions channel, are shown with the oppositions feed. Unless it is sunday Lakers home games shown on the NBA TV channel.
Trust me, I've gone over this with many other Lakers fans who watch via Dishnet on League Pass. For some reason, Time Warner locks Dishnet out of the Lakers broadcast, at least where I am located. I do get the option to watch either the Lakers or the oppositions version of the broadcast if I use League Pass online, but that defeats the point of watching it on Dishnet on my 80" tv.
I wish this were user error, but it is not. Have conversed with Dishnet many times about this, and also emailed with League Pass - this is not on them according to them, it is on Time Warner according to both. I have no idea why Time Warner would cut out people from out of state from watching the Lakers via league pass - it's not like I can get Time Warner here in Montana..... stupid. _________________ "Why do you think bad things happen, anyway???"
