Harden is playing pretty similarly to D'Antoni-era Kobe in terms of high scoring accompanied by high assist numbers and horrible defense. A lot of people thought we would never see anyone play that well again, but Harden's coming pretty close.

I included an option for Harden being better than any version of Kobe because a poster here said he thought that was the case.

Hardens defense isn't horrible this year. I still wouldn't take him over Kobe though.

It's very close but:

Harden is running a well-oiled machine.

Kobe was running a machine that hadn't had it's oil changed in years.

Kobe was willing that team to victory - Harden plays more within the team. The Houston team moves the ball and plays 200x better than that Laker team.

Too bad we never witnessed that 2012-2013 team in the playoff. As much as they struggled in the regular season, they were on a roll towards the end, right up to the achilles tragedy. A slow downed, defensive heavy, more 1-on-1 bball playoffs, who know

individually, of course Kobe > any version of Harden. Just because

oh yea big difference. rocket's are stacked, plus remember how physical defenders were to kobe back then, just hacking the crap out of him. harden gets tons of nice treatment relatively.

Rockets are stacked???

This team doesn't have more talent than that Lakers team. Main difference is this team is playing within the system and everyone is getting along.

Yup, not stacked at all. Just a bunch of chuckers who have been given the green light and are encouraged to shoot miss after miss. It's great to watch. Spacing is superb..and man when Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon get it going from 3 it is must see TV. Congrats Dreamshake, very exciting team.

MDA's system is maximizing Harden this season.
A healthy prime Kobe I would take over Harden any day of the week.

Harden, Lebron, Westbrook, etc. are better regular season players due to their stats. But come crunch time and playoff time, Kobe elevated his team above the sum of its parts. Harden is nowhere near that level in that department. I'm not saying he's a choker, but that he doesn't raise his game the same way on the big stage.
