Power 106's sports guy: Jeff Garcia just reported that he found out through a source that the Lakers offered Deaven George and Slava to the Knicks for Channing Fry and another player. And most likely draft picks. My guess is that they offered to take a player with a contract and Fry for our expiring contracts.

If Cook was part of the package, they might at least talk, but DG and Slava?

That seems to be the problem with laker management, either they want to get something for nothing or they give something for nothing.

I think a lot of teams are going to be making offers to NY in the hopes that Isiah becomes desperate to dump some salary. They're going to be a really, really bad team for the rest of this decade unless they can get rid of some big contracts.

I was thinking DG, Slava and Cook for Frye and Malik Rose. Rose isn't worth the money he's being paid, but he's a good chemistry guy, who can contribute.

I would do it, but I just think if there's any player on the Knicks' roster that is untouchable, it's Frye. He is their future. They really have nothing else to look forward to. Imagine if we didn't have Kobe but had Bynum.

According to the fountain of truth, the New York Post, the Lakers offered Odom for Frye and others and were rejected.

I hope this is the case it only means the Lakers are trying to get rid of Odom.

I would have given up Odom for Frye. We have Bynum at center and Frye at pf. That would have been sweet.

There's another article on Real GM that reports that Larry Brown is making trade inquiries to teams without checking with Isiah first.

If Brown can make his own deals, i'd be surprised if he didn't want Lamar since it seems he hates his entire roster of Isiah's players. Supposedly Brown really liked Lamar when he coached him on the national team in the world championships.

Now, the Knicks have said they won't even do a deal if Odom is included.

PostPosted: Sun Feb 12, 2006 3:30 am    Post subject: Lakers offered odom for frye?

New York Post - While Isiah Thomas continues to shop Penny Hardaway's expiring contract up till the Feb. 23 trade deadline, the Knicks' president continues to protect rookie Channing Frye.

A league source who has spoken to Thomas told The Post the Knicks rejected the Lakers' overtures for Frye, even though they were willing to make 6-10 Queens product Lamar Odom available in a larger package.

Odom, 26, is averaging 13.9 points and 9.4 rebounds, but the Knicks have fears of him playing in his hometown New York, much the same way they feared Ron Artest.

Well, my guess is that it was Frye and someone else of value. Needed for both salary and talent reasons. Frye is good, but Odom is our initator and will continue to put up better numbers than Frye for at least two years. I would have guessed Jalen Rose, but I don't think he can be traded anymore. Wasn't there like a 48 hour window when he could be included with other players? Jalen + Frye for Odom is my guess. I might have turned that down too if I were NY.

I think the deal might have been Odom for Rose+Frye (could Rose be traded for a 2 day period?) . If Rose couldn't have been traded, it must have been something else. Frye and Odom can't be traded straght up due to salary anyway. I wonder what the specifics were.
