This is like asking who is the better player Marc Gasol or Joel Embiid? You can't answer it Luke Walton is the better coach. You can only say I think Luke will end up being a better coach.

Embiid, if healthy, is already way better than Marc Gasol...

Tho the Lakers under Luke this season were on pace for like 27-30 wins before Magic brought in the big guns for the tank

As a coach D'Antoni has some major deficiencies that were accentuated while with the Knicks and Lakers. His Lakers team was extremely talented, but one that didn't fit his preferred style of play, and this dichotomy exposed MDA's limitations. That being said, at this point in time D'Antoni is a better coach than Luke, but I suspect in the long run Luke will be the better head coach.

Coach Mike is a great coach. I know you're talking about the year after, but during the super team year...
He just didn't have the rings to tell Kobe what to do.
And had to deal with D12's injury and not wanting to pick and roll.
He had to deal with Pau not wanting to shoot 3s.
And the only guy who would go to war for him in Nash getting hurt.

Imagine if:
Kobe didnt say during media day "this is MY team."
D12 ran the pick and roll.
Pau did that year what he's doing this year (come off the bench and shoot 3s)
Nash didn't get hurt.

Mike could have gotten his first ring

D'Antoni was ousted unfairly by the LA media and fans

In all fairness, he did say if you are discouraged by all the losing and not being in the top 8 in the west, you should find another team to be a fan of. That is a pretty inflammatory position to take.
