IT trailer

The made for TV movie terrified me as a kid. I think I was 12 or so when we first watched it. Poltergeist already had me scared of clowns and this one just made it worse.

I'm not a huge fan of all the remakes and re-boots Hollywood is churning out lately... but this one is getting an R rating and is rumored to have a lot more elements of the book (also terrifying) featured.

*Side note. Had my kids watch the original last year and after building it up to be super scary, they were kind of just "meh" about it. Truth be told, it wasn't as scary as I remember it, but then again I AM a grown man now.
Not sure if they can handle THIS one though. We'll see.

The original Tim Curry one scared the (bleep) out of me as a kid. Nightmares, man. "We all float down here..."

I bought it on DVD and it was just kind of meh.

The trailer looks great. I was really impressed. Apparently this movie only covers the part where they are kids. its time for a new generation to be terrified of clowns.

The miniseries was good up until they were adults. After that it was a big letdown. So basically part one was entertaining, part two sucked.

Holy (bleep)! Looks amazing.

Read the book eons ago and the mini-series was a bit of a letdown (being on Network TV in the early 90s didn't help). The scene where the kids were watching the projector. Dude...

In my tired haze I thought they were different. Yours is the same international trailer. Cool beans.

The original "It" made for TV mini-series on ABC had a lot of the original story elements because Stephen King was heavily involved in the production. Presenting it as a mini-series helped to retain a lot of the subtleties of his work that get lost in editing his work to fit into a two hour movie. Unfortunately, working in TV had its own limitations due to stricter censorship and limited budgets back then. I remember being disappointed in the low budget CGI used to show Pennywise's true form.

I'm a King fan and "It" was one of my favorites. I look forward to seeing the movie but I worry it will focus too much on the Pennywise horror elements of the book and leave the great depth and interaction of the main characters on the editing room floor.

I'd given up on reading King years ago but recently started reading some of his newer books. Just finished "Joyland" and the "Mr. Mercedes" trilogy and enjoyed them both. "Mr. Mercedes" is also being made into a movie.

As with most remakes, I suppose my biggest question is: Why?

IT returns to feast every 27 years, apparently.

It's part of "It" story as well. That's why the kids who stopped him had to reunite as adults to face him again.

Its basically about a demon who appears every 27 years to feed on children. The demon usually takes the form of a clown named Pennywise. One day a group of children band together to defeat it...and yada yada yada.

*bump
Movie is out tomorrow... tonight at midnight actually. Reviews are pretty great.

My little bro is watching it tomorrow night and is gonna "screen" it for me so I can know if it's "safe" for my daughter (12) to watch.

I'm excited... Will probably watch it on Saturday.

As a book reader, the original was a made for TV pile of dog (bleep). As far as I'm concerned, this isn't a remake.

The book might be my favorite of King's. Every few months will just pick up and read a few chapters. I really liked the original miniseries, although as mentioned, it obviously had some issues. And my cousin, avid King fan, still hasn't forgiven casting director for having John Ritter as Ben Hanscom. (I'm not sure why it bothered him so much back then as a 15-year-old, I guess he had an image in his head of Big Ben that did not match Jack Tripper.)

In the book and original, the stuff with the kids was superior, I thought. Although I loved a lot of the Derry history stuff in the book and the sections in the book when they were all called back and their reactions after hearing from Mike again. Stan, are you still running your bath.....

Assuming the teenage orgy doesn't make the movie.

numero-ocho, I was same with you as far as King's stuff. Read everything through, say, mid 1990s. For like 15 years, a lot of his stuff just didn't hold any appeal and the ones I did pick up I couldn't get into. But then I LOVED 11/22/63 and really liked the Mr. Mercedes series.

I didn't finish 11/22/63 but enjoyed the series on Hulu even though I'd gotten far enough in the book to know the series diverged from it.

I've been watching the Mr. Mercedes series on DIRECTV. It's interesting but I'm having trouble accepting Brendan Gleeson as the Bill Hodges character. He's a fine actor but just not who I imagined and I have trouble understanding the dialogue sometimes with his heavy Irish accent. He's done other roles with a passable American accent so why not this one?

Other than Gleeson, I think the casting for the other characters has been good, especially the actor playing Brady Hartsfield. The series is moving along slowly and doesn't look like it will wrap up in a single season. The Holly Gibney character hasn't even made an appearance yet.

I didn't realize until a few weeks ago the "It" movie coming out this weekend is only part 1 featuring the kids' story. There's supposed to be part 2 that features them facing Pennywise again as adults.
