Those of you accusing West of false modesty and being pretentious are clearly working from a complete lack of knowledge about who the man is and how he has acted for his entire professional career.

I knew who the Zeke from Cabin Creek was before I ever dibbled a basketball, and in school had classroom assignments on the man....not out of choice, but he is actually part of the state history classroom textbooks....but who knows, maybe you got the real 411 up there in Oregon. In my opinion, if West thought there was a serious chance the league would take action on his comments, he would say nothing on the subject.
However, if they did, my approach would be to take a bunch of all-time greats -- MJ, Kobe, Shaq, West Wilt, Magic whoever -- and morph them into a single image, rather than have it be one specific player.
The league is bigger than any one player, and the logo, if redone, shouldn't be a tribute to any one player. It's not as if the current logo was intended to be a tribute to West.
Seeking inspiration, Siegel pored through the photo archives of Sport magazine. A particular photo of the All-Star Jerry West grabbed his attention: It was dynamic, it was vertical, it captured the essence of the game.
