I got a call from these scammers. There will always be another scam, but I'm glad they nailed these jerks.

Quote:
Indian police said on Saturday they had arrested the suspected mastermind behind a call center scam run out of a Mumbai suburb that targeted thousands of Americans and netted more than $300 million.

Sagar Thakkar, 24, also known as Shaggy, was arrested at Mumbai's international airport in the early hours of Saturday after he flew in from Dubai, Mukund Hatote, a police officer on the case, told Reuters.

In October, the U.S. Justice Department charged more than 60 people in India and the United States with participating in the huge scam where call center agents impersonated Internal Revenue Service, immigration or other federal officials and demanded payments for non-existent debts.

I received a call from them too, they even spoofed a 202 area code (Washington, DC) on the caller ID.

I asked if I could pay my tax bill in solar panels.

300 million? WOW. How can people be so gullible? The IRS doesn't call anyone. They send you notices and garnish your wages.

Did the guy with a strong Indian accent end the conversation with, "God bless you"?

Most of those people that fall for these scams are the elderly and people that aren't aware of what technology can do....if theres anything important, like a restraining order or IRS bill, there will be a live person there to serve you papers.

They called my son Friday and he is in school and doesn't pay taxes. When we called back the number wouldn't connect.

If only. I hope trying him in the U.S. doesn't allow him to use his stolen funds to finance his legal defense or barter his way into a white collar prison. He can serve his sentence in a federal pound-me-in-the-a** prison just like any other criminal and then ship his sorry butt back to India when he gets out.
