'Happy Days' actress Erin Moran dead at 56, found 'unresponsive' by Indiana police

"Happy Days” actress Erin Moran, who found fame as Joanie Cunningham in the hit ABC sitcom, has died at age 56.

First responders in Indiana found a woman identified as Erin Marie Moran Fleischmann dead around 4 p.m. Saturday after a 911 call said she was unresponsive, according to a Harrison County Sheriff's Office statement.

It was not immediately clear how Moran died, an autopsy is pending, police said.

The actress faced a downward spiral in 2012 when she wound up broke and homeless. She was evicted from a mobile home she shared with her husband, Steven Fleischmann, in an Indiana trailer park in 2012.

In the popular "Happy Days" series, Moran starred as the younger sister of Richie Cunningham, who was portrayed by actor and director Ron Howard. The show concluded 10 years after it first aired in 1974.

She later starred in the short lived spinoff "Joanie Loves Chachi" alongside actor Scott Baio.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Man, that's sad.

Didn't know she had fallen on such hard times. Hope she finds peace now.

Yeah, unfortunately she had a long and tough battle with mental illness.

Tragic stuff.

RIP Erin.

Life is even harder when you are broke and don't have a home. She lost her home and then eventually moved in with her mother in law and then to a hotel...

Also, she supposedly had a drinking problem.

Autopsy revealed she had stage 4 cancer and likely died due to complications from it.

I read an article on People today describing her life in the rural town where she died. She was living in some trailer park with her husband and would spend her afternoons drinking at a local bar most days while her husband worked.

Yeah I heard this too but where they were at (a trailer park outside Louisville) there's not a whole lot going on there.

I'm glad it wasn't a drug overdose I really expected it given that area and heroin.

I was going to refrain from making some kind of snarky Scott Baio joke by saying something along the lines of "why couldn't it have been Chachi!?" out of respect for Erin's troubled times and untimely death. But given his comments about Erin's passing, I say (bleep) that Trump loving, moronic (bleep):

Scott Baio Has Harsh Words On Co-Star’s Death:

“For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die,” Baio said. “I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive, and you gotta take care of yourself.”

Considering that it was reported after her disappearance from Hollywood that mental health issues were behind her economic and drug battles it's a very ignorant and tasteless comment.
