Who thinks the Lakers will make a move before the deadline? What type of move will the Lakers make?

It’s clear the Lakers are not willing to move Odom or Bynum. Therefore, the Lakers don't have any one else to offer that will produce an impact player that can come in and start for this team.

My two cents…

I believe the Lakers are looking to move their expiring contracts, George ($5) and Slava ($3) for veteran players who have one year left on their contracts after this season. After losing Profit, there is a need for a scoring guard. Bynum and Turiaf are rookies, so Phil could be asking for another veteran big man who he can trust in the fourth quarter of games.

Unfortunately, it’s becoming clear the Lakers are not going to make any big moves until after next season (summer of 2007).

i hope they do.. but i would be surprised if they did.

it would be nice to get some players that compliment kobes game. Shooters, defenders or an actual 2-way player w/ a jumpshot or ability to create a shot.

We are getting Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for the scrubs we have now. And then we will see who is boss in the western conference (or actually in the NBA). Here is our new roster after Feb 23:

Mihm
Garnett
Pierce
Kobe
Watson

Another dynasty

I don't see what kind of impact move they could make to help in the playoff stretch so I think they'll stay with what they got.

WOW! At this point, almost half who voted don't even think the Lakers will make a move with their expiring $8 million contracts!

That would tell me the Lakers are content. It'll be interesting if the Lakers don't make a move and miss the playoffs for the second time in two years. Laker fans will want blood from the front office for being content with this roster.

Yep, since afterall, people on a message board ARE the Front Office.

I'd be really surprised if we don't make a trade by the deadline, miss the playoffs again, and Mitch still keeps his job.

I doubt that would be the case. Mihm was a very good move. His value is increasing. Bynum was also a good pickup. Turiaf should payoff too. Cook has been looking very good lately.

We have a (bleep) as our GM. He wont take a risk at all. When the owner of the team encourages you to take more risks, thats when you really know you are just a (bleep).

Therefore, we will not make a trade. And I gurantee Phil is not happy about that at all.

We wouldn't have kept Slava over Profit if Mitch didn't plan on making any trades.

I want to say, yeah, they'll make a trade but I have no faith in our GM or the ownership so i don't know and by trade i mean a trade that WILL help the team,

i put myself down as a tentative yes for a starter, although i don't have a good feeling about it, everyone in lakerdom who matters seems to be in love with LO, our only real tradeable asset for a starter

I'm pretty sure Profit was bought out to make room for Turiaf. Furthermore, the Wizards had to put up the cash as part of the Kwame / Profit trade this summer. Lakers do hope Profit is available to resign this summer after he returns from rehab.

I believe the Lakers are looking to move their expiring contracts, George ($5) and Slava ($3) for veteran players who have one year left on their contracts after this season. I could see the Lakers making a small move for Ruben Patterson. Phil once said Ruben is the only trade he made that he regreted.

2005-06 $6,353,200 and 2006-07 $6,807,000

Ruben's contract doesn't affect the 2007 plan and it works well with the Laker's expiring contracts. Ruben adds defense and can create his own offense. Since losing Profit, the Lakers haven't had anyone step up and fill his role. Ruben can handle the 2 and 3 (both offensive and defense).

Portland is looking to clear cap space. They also have a couple of cheap centers who can provide some depth behind Mihm, such as Joel Przybilla who is in his final contract year ($1,560,000).

George and Slava
for
Patterson and (1 throw-in center, draft pick or swap 2nd rd draft picks)

Parker, Sasha, Wafer
Kobe, McKie, Green
Odom, Patterson, Walton
Kwame, Cook, Turiaf
Mihm, Przybilla, Bynum

I think that we really need to make a move before the deadline, but I'm not optimistic. I don't think that MK will make any moves, unfortunately.

Agreed...

...but you're saying it like Mitch will just choose not to make a move.

My guess is we make no move because there doesn't end up being a
move worth making, or at least one that Phil and Dr. Buss will both
approve of and Mitch will get done.

I'd love something of impact, but even if we make a move I expect it
to be a role player or two being swapped out.

Frye would be awesome if we could get him while keeping Kobe, LO and
Bynum.

Good point. I agree with that. I would love to land Frye if we kept the guys you mentioned above.
