was one of the best GM's in the NBA for over a decade....probably too soon, but eventually the team needs to recognize his contributions. 3x NBA Champion as player (2 with Lakers) and 5 Championships as GM.

Imagine the PR benefits of doing so. Jim Buss relationship is burned beyond recognition. But Dr. Buss probably trusted Mitch as a consigliore for the family. Would show that Jeannie isn't made purely with manipulative and vindictive gemstones.

Problem is I think she is completely manipulative so I'm a skeptic he gets honored

Won't happen.

Yes - Mitch deserves some formal recognition from the Lakers for his contributions over the past 37 years. Lakers won a lot of titles during the span in which Mitch played a role in the Lakers, including his tenure as GM. I've yet to see anyone with a hint of credibility and inside knowledge of the organization log in to LG and state Mitch did not play a role in the Lakers success. From everything credible that I've read he performed his role to the best of his abilities and did so with a lot of class, and with more success than most GM's ever aspire to. Perhaps his time has come and gone, but yes Mitch deserves recognition.

I didn't know that's the only player he's signed during his tenor with the Lakers. Typical "what have you done for me lately" kind of response.

Engrave his name into one of these and put a glass case around it.

Seriously though, I always supported Mitch. I wanted him to stay, but I'm excited about what we have going on now.

Honor the man.

He eventually will when time passes. Unfortunately, he allied himself with the wrong Buss and had to go down with his inbred captain.

He didn't ally himself with any Buss. He only did his job. Overreaction by Jeanie, but I hope she can learn from it.

No overreaction. He deserved to be fired. When you do a bad job year after year that's what you deserve.

And what do you deserve when you loyally serve a team for 36 years helping them to win 9 Championships?

Yep people acting like he wa an innocent bystander. If it wasn't for Kobe's brilliance he would have been fine a lot sooner

Relevance? He still deserved to be fired.

I thought this thread was about honoring him after he was fired.

So can someone still be let go and given honor for his contributions?

Yes but my response was to ventura's statement about Jeannie overreacting.

Yes and I'm not arguing against that. Seriously is it not clear that I responded to ventura's post?

Yes overreaction. Mitch's NBA knowledge is about 100 times that of our current FO. A consultant role would have been smart, Jeanie has never proven to be smart.

Yes but my response was to ventura's statement about Jeannie overreacting.
I simply asked what the man deserved after 36 years and 9 Championships. Seems reasonable to thank the man for his contributions regardless of why he was fired. Phil was let go. So was Riley. Even Magic left the team for a while. Shaq was traded and smacked everyone on the way out the door. Mitch was nothing but class and poise. A true gentleman and had more FO success than all but a handful of elite GMs. He earned his rings and deserves to be recognized.
