I think the commercial is perfect BECAUSE of it's timing.

It's a great way to show that he's embracing how polarizing he is from
the standpoint of fans accross the country.

I know this probably seems an odd comparison, but Eminem has always
been an extremely polarizing figure. His supporters LOVE him, and there
are also plenty out there who hate him for his message.

I'm not gonna get into all of that discussion regarding Eminem - but his
public reaction (both on tracks on his CDs and interviews, etc) was
basically to say "F*** you, I'm still gonna do what I do and be me."

In at least a very basic (and much more diplomatic) way, that's the kind
of grit this commercial bleeds out of Kobe.

In both cases, people see a man who is standing by his own way of being.
For those already supporting either figure, their love only grows stronger
for that person. For those who had been hating?

Some will of course continue to hate, but some of those same haters will
realize a new respect for the conviction behind that message.

I think it's brilliant.

Later? Then I'd love to see things with a little more hook to them.

The Shawn Marion commercial where he punks those random gym-rats
down and then later on takes off the weight-plates from under his clothes
and says, "Just trying to make it fair." - Great ad.

The "LeBrons" ad is actually pretty decent too. They beat that into a dead
horse in my opinion by overmarketing the spot (spots technically), but it
was very well produced and certainly a creative angle.

T-Mac's spot where he sprouts demon-wings and starts flying all over the
rainy hoops-court splashing flaming-basketballs through the hoop? I hate
it Now, the purpose of that ad is likely aimed more for young kids
to try and give him a youthful demographic that will have more years
(with more time and expendable income, if indirectly) than an older crowd
might - but for most of us out of middle-school I think that was a pretty
gaudy ad.

What will Kobe end up doing for his next one? Obviously I don't know, but
I will say the way he's played this season will put him up with LBJ on their
priorities-list, and he's in darned good hands with Nike's ad people in general.

I think the timing is perfect as well... if not calculated....

KB8's Janurary performance
62 points after 3 qtr
81 points
The Dime Mag Article
The shoe coming out

Now the commercial. Up next, the All-Star Game and the Top 60 NBA players of all time...

As long as this ended with a first round playoff win... I'm, cool with it.

I am tired of the negative publicity surrounding the commercial. then again, what's new.

I think the funny thing is, the critics are latching on to the term 'hate' and how many times 'hate' is used in the commercial, and then they turnaround and hate on him and the commercial...

I think KB8 made his point... LOL...
