I don't think we saw much of that at all this year |
Honestly, his "coaching" made zero positive impact on the team as far as I could tell this year.
Maybe some improvement in the offensive sets but that could just be because Kobe hung up his holster.
Defensively they were a disaster in effort, scheme and execution.
The assistant coaches also leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.
To me the jury is very much still out on Luke. I could coach Golden State's current roster right now, that means nothing. |
Do you believe it is most on the coaching staff?
He doesn't have the most talent players to work IMHO. Thibs with more talent and players with better motor couldn't make it work on defense until very late in the season. |

Then replace the word tanking with sucking. Who gives a (bleep)? I already explicitly stated in my post that I don't care about intention in this particular context, I only care about the end result. Pointless pedantry for the sake of it. |
Because if you use sucking then you can blame people, while using tanking means you pray at the altar of Hinkie. You know, textbook bias. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Luke needs to seriously improve his roations. They were atrocious this year. |

well when you also have Jim Buss's players, it's tough to be a wizard with rotations in your first year. _________________ Dominating every day. |

He handed both Luke and MDA remarkably poor rosters in terms of personnel fit (lots of post cloggers and lack of floor spacing). |

I think we have a much better foundation in our schemes. Last year was horrendous with how often we'd be shooting bail out shots. That wasn't just on Kobe, but on the nature of how Scott set up his system. It was made to order to put us in that kind of situation. Luke also did a better job in playing guys to their strengths.
There was a lot to be desired still despite all that, but this was a decent step forward. I'm pretty optimistic about this side of the floor.

Pretty much. I was bummed before the season that we didn't get a high quality defensive coach as this was Luke's biggest weakness.

I disliked Jim as much as anyone, but the bad roster fit is likely more to do with Mitch than Jim. It was his hallmark for a long time. |

Luke has done quite a good job in his first year with the Lakers. He started with Russell and Randle as skeleton of the starting unit. Then started Ingram too later the season and finally started Nance and Clarkson too. These 5 play together rather good modern basketball, although they were still green and raw individually and closed the season strong, with all veterans were benched. New players like Ennis, Nwaba, Brewer also learned and fitted into the system quickly. I especially like the game against the young Timberwolves which we have overcome the Towns' 40, 20 night as well as Wiggins 40+ night. It's all team effort against great talents. I expect they execute even better with the experience gained as well as their personal development |
