And Philly still gets a top 3 pick... but at the expense of the Sacramento Kings.

So is the Lakers obligation to give up picks now over?

The result is a perfect example showing why you should NOT tank. If the Lakers were in the Suns place, they would have dropped out top 3.

In an event dictated by probability, moving up or down one spot in the standing means little to nothing.

This is hindsight, but hindsight makes you realize there is no foresight in an one-time event dictated by probability.

Tanking would not work unless you do it as a strategy, i.e. doing it repeatedly for many years. How many years have the Sixers done it? Five? The Lakers fanbase would rebel had they done that.

BTW, The poll of 66% "yes" shows.... this is a Lakers forum.
Why did people keep casting votes After the lottery?

This gives Magic and Pelinka more leverage to get Paul George from the Pacers. They would love to have Ball or Fultz to build around.

Phew. Bullet whizzed by. Didn't lose that 2019 pick. Not a definitive second best player among the consensus top pair a la Gelo to KAT. For the third straight year, the Lakers get the cover of being relegated to picking the left over guy. More importantly, I don't have to stew over that "we wanted them to taste winning" nonsense for years to come. Jeanie can sleep well tonight.

I was fuming over that end of season winning streak.

Just so happy it worked out.

And even with them getting the 2nd pick and retaining 2019, I somehow doubt they're gonna remember those end games come Nov. Point is, it was a tissue thin claim Jeanie et al were probably dreading having to push at season ticket holder events, etc. Now they can simply leave that dreadful season in the coffin and move on. And having this 2nd pick doesn't mildly stink like it did when we were vying for Towns.

Sixers get our 2018 1st round pick. Orlando gets our second round pick in 2017 & 2018. We keep our 2019 1st round pick.

Lakers to Draft Second Overall at 2017 Draft

L.A. also owns the 28th pick

Quote:
Magic Johnson lived up to his name on Tuesday, as the Lakers jumped up a spot and came away with a much-desired result from the NBA Draft Lottery.

For the third straight year, the Lakers will have an opportunity to add another piece to their young core with the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft.

Magic and Pelinka prayed for the pick, lol.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19400733/2017-nba-draft-rob-pelinka-good-fortune-lakers-now

Many bring lucky trinkets to the lottery, but Pelinka brought none, relying on his run. He clocked about eight miles, following his familiar path. Later, Pelinka and Lakers' president of basketball operations Earvin "Magic" Johnson met with agents. They Facetimed with Lakers president and owner Jeanie Buss. They took a call from Kobe Bryant, who wished them luck. Then on their drive to the hotel, Pelinka and Johnson prayed.

Too bad it was Ernst & Young, and not Price Waterhouse. Was hoping for the Celtic rep to say, "“Magic, you guys won first pick. This is not a joke, come back here. I got the card, 1st pick Lakers. ”

flashback to the Nash and Howard trades

if we keep Ennis

we got Nash for whatever next years pick equates to since the 1st we gave them got them Ennis

the Howard trade in essence becomes Howard for Bynum and Calderon since we got two 2nd rd picks for taking Calderon which replace the 2 we now have to give to Orlando

in hindsight not as bad as it looked 24 hours ago
