Why would they try to demote their director of basketball analytics?

The obvious guess was that they want to upgrade. He was offered to be a team leader but they wanted more at the top. Will be interested to see who that is.

Great article Emplay - good reading your insights into the FO's restructuring and personnel moves. I do like the direction in scouting and analytics as you described, and the idea that they recognize the value of their existing college scouting group and their Euro scout. Sounds like they're intent on beefing up several other areas, and willing to spend to do so.

It'll be interesting to see how the new analytics group comes together and how they'll interact. It'll also be interesting to see whether all these efforts, plus the new training center, can give the Lakers more traction when trying to lure free agents.

Good stuff!

The more eyes out in the scouting department,
the better to catch a diamond in the rough.

Time to get a name in the analytics department!

Bye.

I like the new alignment between scouts, coaches and the FO. Free flowing information allows for an informed decision-making and unity on all fronts.

Agreed. It is a good foundation to build upon. And this is a new foundation, it may take some time to rebuild the Lakers upon it.

I hope there is some patience with the new organization and they don't feel the need to immediately move out our young players to get a name on the team at the expense of our future growth.

Good report, expecially about the scouting department. I look forward to updates about the analytics, player development, and athletic performance teams.

I just wish they'd look a little harder at the coaching staff too, maybe they will. Why can't we add a shooting coach?

Cool stuff, its about time they improve their farm in the euro league. I just hope this yields a more competitive and entertaining team, because like so many other teams, they still won't be good enough for the CWL.

I agree. We also need some coaching help on defense.

Rudy Tomjanovich no longer with the Lakers

Quote:
The Lakers’ wave of sea changes in their basketball operations department included Rudy Tomjanovich, who coached the Lakers 43 games into the 2004-05 season before abruptly resigning and serving as a consultant for the Lakers in various capacities in subsequent years.

A Lakers spokesperson attributed Tomjanovich’s departure to “part of the reorganization of basketball operations,” which took place shortly after the 2016-17 season ended in mid-April. Last season, Tomjanovich served as a consultant and scout for the Lakers’ basketball analytics department. Tomjanovich’s son, Trey, also is not part of the staff after serving as a consultant and helping with statistical analysis in the basketball analytics department.
