Quote: | Since 1990, the team with the third-best odds held their position five times (18.5 percent), climbed to either first or second seven times (25.9 percent) and fell to fourth, fifth or sixth on 15 occasions (55.6 percent). |
Based on this, the percentage for the third team to stay in the top 3 is currently sitting at 44.4%. That means that we must retain our pick in order to put the average at where it is supposed to be. Us staying in the top 3 would move those percentages up to 46.4%!
So what you are saying Eric is that the Lakers will be keeping their pick tonight! Awesome reporting and great insight! _________________ Don't make me give you a trout slap! |

The result is a perfect example showing why you should NOT tank. If the Lakers were in the Suns place, they would have dropped out top 3.
In an event dictated by probability, moving up or down one spot in the standing means little to nothing.
This is hindsight, but hindsight makes you realize there is no foresight in an one-time event dictated by probability.
Tanking would not work unless you do it as a strategy, i.e. doing it repeatedly for many years. How many years have the Sixers done it? Five? The Lakers fanbase would rebel had they done that.
Or maybe the Jim/Mitch regime had tanked for four year without ever saying it. They tried to keep the team competitive while leaving tanking as an option in the second half of the seasons. If true, that is brilliant strategy albeit it costs them jobs.
Does the new FO have a good strategy in place? By definition, strategy is something you do repeatedly for a long time. So we don't know yet. |
