I like the idea of protecting a young player by not allowing the knee to be a story, especially one as exposed as Lonzo. I would expect Boston or San Antonio to do about the same. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.

Yeah I'm not sure I understand the level of surprise here. When I heard 'Sprained Knee' I assumed right off the bat it could be a ligament, fortunately it's MCL not ACL, fortunately it's 'minor' and not type 2 or 3. That still translates to at least 3 weeks minimum. It's not career threatening, but it's a helluva lot worse than a bruised kneecap. Don't rush it. It's been 2 and a half weeks, he's starting lateral movement just now.
Luke has been explicit in his interview on what milestones he expects before Lonzo returns, and it's clear he doesn't want to cheat the healing process by rushing things. Now that Lonzo's doing a little lateral movement they wait to see if there's soreness the next day. Soon, full practice, then wait again and see how the knee reacts. If no setback, start giving him minutes again. Hopefully ease him back the first game or two and gauge the knee.
I think it's a reasonable approach for a 20 year old prized rookie who doesn't yet have an NBA body but does have a mild knee sprain.
I think people get freaked out when they hear something "CL."
Is the MCL a ligament in the knee?
Uhm. yes.
Is a MCL sprain a knee sprain?
Uhm. yes.
Is this really an X-Files case?
I hope not. Why is everyone talking as if it is.
You're scaring me.
Um... let me check. It says he is day to day... we aren't quite sure yet.
Hmmm... sure why not, let's take a chance... maybe he'll be well by then.
It's f*cking dishonest and either stealing from fans who wouldn't pay for a ticket otherwise, or it's misleading to FAs who would only want to come here based on Lonzo's health.
Next time someone has a knee injury, please make sure to let us know whether it's an ACL, PCL, MCL or LCL sprain. We anatomy majors would appreciate it.
Sincerely,
A fan who doesn't want Sentient Meat to buy a ticket based solely on Lonzo's health and then be disappointed he didnt play.

Right off the bat it was reported as a knee sprain. What's a "Knee Sprain" going to be if it's not a ligament?? They didn't set a timetable, nor did they lie about a timetable. They didn't promise a dang thing in fact.
Is there any such thing as a knee sprain that is not likely to take 3 weeks or more to heal?
Or are we delving into "Play him hurt, because I paid for tickets!"? Everyone knew he had a knee sprain, and people buy tickets anyway. Sure it's better with Lonzo on the floor, I understand feeling frustrated that Lonzo's sitting, but that's not on Luke or the Laker FO or Lonzo.
The idea that any of this could be deceptive to potential free agents is ludicrous. Again, the knee sprain was reported right off the bat. Free agents understand that drill. Late news it's a minor MCL sprain should be a relief, not a shock.
17 days. That's how long it's been.
And he's starting to move laterally. Again, MCL, not ACL. Not sure who's been lied to or hurt by this, other than our eyes watching Ennis fill in.
Aren't all knee sprains involving a ligament though.....?
Sucks it's taken longer than they first kind of led on, but I guess it's why each grade of sprain has a timetable..from 1-3 weeks, sucks to hit the back end of that

Yes.
They probably didn't want to scare the common fan.
Lonzo Ball has started testing his knee laterally with the trainers, but not in a practice setting. The work that he did do didn’t make him feel worse, so that’s good. He’s making progress.
Progress is good. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
You guys realize Lonzo is the draw. To say he will be out 4-8 weeks means people not tuning in and going to games. Then there is the media attention I'm sure everyone is tired of by now.

That isn't crazy. My interest nosedives when I find out he isn't playing.

Conspiracy theory added: And now that the Lakers are actually winning without him, the Lakers reveal the truth. Oh dang!
Julius Randle Says Lonzo Ball’s Return ‘Will Help A Lot’
Quote:
Even though the Los Angeles Lakers have looked better in recent weeks, the team undoubtedly would like to see rookie point guard Lonzo Ball return sooner rather than later. Ball is the catalyst for the Lakers’ offense and makes all of his teammates better.
“It will help a lot,” Julius Randle said. “Just his unselfishness, pushing the pace, ball movement. All that is contagious. So it will help a lot.”
